So why is it when one edits a post, does it add the date and time in the bottom of the message?

Sure if someone changes their post, it may be nice for others to know... uh, maybe.  The only time I ever edit a post (and I think this would be common to most people) is right after I posted the message and reread it.  Perhaps I wanted to add something or fix a spelling error.  I don`t like how it inserts the line about editing when I do that.

Does anyone really care that I edited a post on June 12, 2007 at 12:24am, which isn`t even the time in my time zone?  No, I`m not up past midnight rewriting posts.  The time stamp is misleading.

Furthermore, and I have a lot to say about this, why must it put this line IN the content of the message in the same black color as the message?  It makes it seem like I wrote that in there and quite frankly, it upsets the flow of the message from content to signature.

And why does it say it is edited by CampSteve?  Of course it is edited by me!  It`s my message and I am the only one who can do so!

Also, if the edits have a time stamp, then why doesn`t the original post date have one?  In fact, do we really need to know the time anyway?  That seems like superfluous information.

Here is what I propose to make the threads cleaner regarding this issue.  If a message is edited, then mention so up at the top next to where it says "Posted June 12, 2007".  Make it grey and italic like it already is up there.  Doesn`t this make sense?  Put all this date/time info together.  And like I said, there is no need to mention who edited it.

That`s funny, because sometimes I do feel the need to scribble in "edited for typos" in there, so it doesn`t look like I`m up to funny business.

Exactly!  This formatting has bugged me for a while but I just never said anything until now.

Hey, you`re lucky! It used to post random editorial comments at the bottom, like `This is hogwash!` or `No way, Jose!` or `Power to the Peeps!`

:-D
