Hi, I just joined Startup Nation last night. I want to take advantage of the website critique. My partner and I built http://www.edisoncreek.com back in July. I have been working hard on getting it noticed by google and other search engines. This week I am focusing on SEO, advertising, and backlinks.

My company offers electrical engineering services for the design and implementation of industrial projects. We specialize in power and control systems.

I wanted my website to be clean, simple, and professional, yet informative. Sometimes I feel like I dont have enough contect on my pages. At the same time, it seems to get the job done.

Please let me know what you think about my site and what I can do to make it better. I am wide open to your opinions.

Thanks,

Joe Fenten

Welcome to SUN...

Here's my critique:

Overall

  • GOOD START!
  • Use all lowercase letters in urls
  • There are a dozen or so html warnings, not that big a deal, but it's always nice to validate

Home

  • The logo is too big, and the background should be the same across the whole header
  • Home page content is good, straight forward, tells your prospects who you are and what you do
  • The links in the body look outdated, maybe an unordered list would work better?
  • Change the page URL's to use -'s rather than _'s... spiders appearantly have a tougher time reading urls with _'s than -'s
  • The stock photo of some guy walking with a briefcase... ??? i don't get it, how the heck does that relate to electrical engineering? Why not take a few shots of the shop and put them in there, humanize the site a bit, let people see who you are so you're more approachable
  • the logo at the bottom seams redundant to me

Services

  • This page seams fine to me, people who want more details on what you can do will find it here.
  • It is my preference, and in my opinion, best practices, to either have a breadcrumb on each page or be able to get to your sub-menu options from the main menu. SO, having the links within the services page that go to other pages without a link back to the main section is a little annoying when it comes to ease of browsing.
  • Try to avoid using underlines in your section titles, they tend to look like links if not styled properly.

About

  • How about something a little more personal, who are the guys behind the company? also something more about your history and experience would help too imo.

Contact

  • all pretty basic, but how about a contact form??
