I need to have a E-commerce. I came accross a business called MJM Ecommerce. They work for "revenue sharing" instead of a high flat fee for a project. Here is what they do for entrepreneurs.

"MJM has partners instead of clients because we are vested in your online business’ growth and performance. Our partners benefit from our collective ecommerce experience in areas such as online marketing, web design, programming, strategic planning, fulfillment optimization and customer service management. "

Did any of you use a similar service? Dangerous to have such company linked to one`s E-commerce? What revenue % do they take?

This MJM company seems small....not many examples....is there any other larger one you would recommend?

Thank you.

Hi,

I do not know anything about MJM except what I see on their site. They use Magneto as the basis for their ecommerce solutions. Magneto is a good program (open source), of course there are other open source programs that are good too.

To things trouble me when I look at their site (1) no idea of pricing and (2) they do not show any client sites (you have to contact them for that information.

It seems to me the basic question for you is... what`s you budget? If you need to get a site done for free (and no cash out of pocket up front) but paid out of sales... MJM may work - but again, their pricing is unknown.

Two things to consider (1) is the pricing (their share) so high as to eliminate your profit margin or price your product out of the market? (2) how portable is the ecommerce solution - can you move it to another host at any time?

Hi abc1111.

I came across a really sweet opportunity and have since decided to try revenue sharing as a way to boost overall income (cash flow) versus settling for doing everything myself.

While going through this experience, I began trying to anticipate the questions I would be asked from those who I proposed this strategy to, some of which I mentioned in this Sun forum thread.

Adding to Roland`s reply, although I haven`t looked at their website, based on your description, it`s interesting that they prefer revenue sharing over a flat fee or some combination thereof and they don`t say enough about how they want to structure it and what type of website or business qualifies.

Of course, I`d think it would depend on the situation and therefore, they might not specify it on their website.  But, at the same time, you`d think that they may at least say what size company (e.g. gross sales) whereby only those matching that criteria to apply (depending on the volume of applicants they get).

Bottom line: You should formulate some really specific questions as well as run it by an attorney or savvy businessman who structures or participates in partner relationships including new startups as its challenges are a bit different from a more mature company.

Do more research because it just seems a bit strange but who knows, it might be fine.  If they do it for you and if there is no `catch`, then maybe if they`d accept you as a `client/partner` then they must have some level of confidence in the future of your endeavor.

...but read the fine print first before you do anything.

Hello all,

I am president and co-founder of MJM Ecommerce and I came across this thread while analyzing keyword search queries for the MJM site.  I certainly do appreciate the comments in this thread and I want to take a moment to address them.

Let me start by providing you and overview of MJM Ecommerce.  MJM is a relatively new company as we started in early 2008.  We are a small company of 15 individuals with passion for what we do.  We provide ecommerce and online marketing solutions, which includes the specific areas abc1111 stated above.  Our website is being reconstructed at this time and it will provide more information on client roster and business model.  You can also find discovery forms on the current site that helps to qualify your business so we can develop a proposal.

Pricing

We don’t mention pricing because each deal is structured according to the partner’s business needs.  This is fluid because one partner might require an ecommerce and online marketing solution while another might require only ecommerce.  We provide flexibility in what you can get from us, and, therefore, pricing is flexible.  Our new site (launching this summer) will provide more information.

Client List

Originally, we decided not to list our clients because of competitive reasons.  However, our new site will include our client roster.  It includes some well known national and regional brands

Magento

Indeed, we use Magento as the basis for our ecommerce suite as it is the most robust and feature packed open source platform on the market.  Because of its architecture, it’s easier to integrate with other systems (e.g. ERP, POS, etc.) and we can develop to meet partner requirements.  You can implement the site on any host you prefer.  We do suggest using our hosting solution as we have it optimized to handle the Magento platform and is scalable to handle traffic spikes (e.g. holiday traffic).

At the end of the day, what we’re offering is ecommerce and online marketing expertise and a suite of solutions to help you achieve your online business goals.  We can custom build an ecommerce site and develop marketing plans that will drive traffic, increase awareness and generate revenue.

n business, revenue sharing refers to the sharing of profits and losses among different groups. One form shares between the general partner(s) and limited partners in a limited partnership. Another form shares with a company's employees, and another between companies in a business alliance.
