I need to select what product to sell in a e-commerce venture of mine in the relatively smaller market of a Eastern European country.

Looking to start with simple products , i.e no electronics that require warranty. Thinking to find an exporter directory on the net ( you know any ? ) , order some thing and well ... just do it !

Want to spend 2 - 3 K initially on products.

I think the basic thing to consider when starting a business is to know a need and fill it.

However, the most crucial thing to add to it is to do something you love and enjoy. That would help in the success of your business in the long run.
