Hello all,

I am a former business owner. I owned a home base catering business, and in doing so I had (because it expired) a tax ID and a Dunns number. Browsing the internet today I stumble upon the D&B website. I contacted them to find out about my old information and to see if my old number was still viable. It's not.

Upon speaking to the rep. I was told that I could apply for a dunns number for $400 annually and automatically recieve a score of 80. The rep stated unlike a SSN, business credit starts out great until you mess it up. And with that number and score I should be able to get business credit.

I really wanted know if any one has heard this or is there a catch I am not aware of?

Thank you and God bless.

Are you sure you spoke to a D&B representative?

The reason why I doubt this is that you can apply for a DNB number without any cost to you. Think about it, D&B makes a living of selling data and maintaining that they have up to date business background information available pretty much on any business in the U.S. and other places.

By applying for a DNB number you're essentially providing them with a shortcut and do most of their work yourself.

I could certainly be wrong about this, but the mere notion that business credit starts out great and only declines if you mess it up, sounds like rubbish to me .

Following this line of thinking would mean that somebody would need to take a hit or financial loss, just because he or she relied on D&B data that has yet to be updated.

This doesn't sound right, does it?

Mark
