For many reasons often webmasters tend to optimize their site for Geographic Locations. Lets say you are selling candy online for USA, and you don't ship anywhere else. Its very likely that you would want to optimize your site for that geographic location.

First of all to get higher ranking on search results. If you specify your site for a location your site will will be the preferred one over the ones that are not geographically targeted. Another reason could be you just don't wanna do business with other locations.

So how do you optimize a site for geographic location?

I am doing it like any other keyword or optimization.  I include my location in my title bar, all over the site, etc.  I am not an SEO expert, but it seems a logical approach to me.  Of course, in my case, users are going to include the town name when searching for my person to person services.

A very high percentage of search queries include a location!  You SEO your page with a location just like any other keyword you would want to target.

Example: If someone living in Detroit is searching for an electrician, then an electrical contractor that serves the Detroit area should optimize for "electrician in Detroit"...

If the contractor web page is just targeting "electrician", then there is no way they will be in the top organic results.
