We have been working on our website for so long, we have become used to all the idiosyncrasies that it has.  My main questions are:

Does it make sense, and is it logical?
Is navigation easy?
How can we increase our search engine visibility?
Also, I just want feedback on what works and what doesn`t.  What else do we need?

Thanks in advance,

I`m not a Web expert, but living in Pittsburgh too, I just had to reply.  Go Pens!!

One thing I`d like to see if your "training studio".  I know what Pittsburgh looks like, so maybe dump that front picture of the `burgh and put up a picture of your studio?  Is it common for offices to have their own training studio?  If not, I`d really hit that up.

In general, I like the site and the general flow, seems to focus a bit heavy on your prices, but that may be an important differentiator for you, I don`t know enough.

RE: Search engines -
Looking at what Google has for text cache for your home page:
There is no content, only your menu items.

Also, you do not have meta tags for page description which is used by some search engines.
You might add keyword meta tag - but that`s not used much.

Have you thought about what keywords/phrases you want to target?

The site is logical. And the concept - cutting out the admin. so the patient sees the Dr. is a good idea.

GO PENS, how awesome was game 3!

Anyways, the site seems very logical and simple to use. Although I hate the brown but if that if your color scheme then go for it. Vwebworld is right, and I have the same content problems to. Start writing articles about what you do / techniques and use keywords your targeting in them. That will be a start and maybe your patients will learn what to expect beforehand.

Best of luck.

The site seems a little kludgey in that it takes some time for each page to load. I`m using a DSL line and would hope to quickly move around.

You have some strange grammar and syntax, and awkward phrasing. For example, your second sentence on the Home page talks about "your chiropractor." First of all, it turns out there are more than one. Secondly, most of us are accustomed to reading in the third-person plural or the editorial "we."

So for example, "We are located in...." tends to fit more with standard expectations.

When I visited your prices and services page, I would have liked to see at the bottom of each description a "Return to Services" link. I want to get a sense of many different aspects of your business, and having to click the "back" button is just inconvenient.

I have a chiropractor who`s also trying to build a better Web presence, so I was curious as to what you`re doing. The colors aren`t very inspiring, what with the brown and white, but a bigger issue is just the overall "blah" of the site. You definitely could use some more graphics, especially including people.

As stated above, nobody really cares what downtown Pittsburgh looks like. Perhaps a portrait of the two chiropractors, or a logo or something else? That`d be a graphic design and layout question.

I really like your online scheduling, although I couldn`t get into it not being registered, but that`s the wave of the future. It`s great that you`re going in that direction. It`s a shame you have to take the visitor off-site, but perhaps in the future you`ll be able to integrate it right into the site.

All in all, it`s "okay." Since your target market is entirely local, SEO and other optimization likely won`t matter much. To that end, you`ll want to focus your marketing in localized types of access points: Yellow Pages, Merchant Circle, Chamber of Commerce, and online sites that people would find immediately that contain local businesses.

Alright!  Game 4 was a heart breaker.

The training studio is quite unique in chiropractic, and I don`t know of anyone in the area who is doing something similar.

We definitely are working on getting some pictures on the site, especially the training studio, several of the doctors looking important, the reception area, and the treatment rooms.  We were also thinking of throwing one with the view from the training studio (we`re on the 27th floor).

We wanted the pricing to be visible and easy to find, but if it`s overbearing maybe we should take a look at it.

I don`t really understand the Google Text Cache thing, but we have identified a few keywords we want to focus on (chiropractor, chiropractic, downtown pittsburgh, training studio, personal trainer...), and we`ll try to work on the meta tags.

I didn`t realize that the colors look brown to folks.  It`s supposed to be a burgandyish color with the white. Maybe we should put some other colors on there to make it a little less vanilla?

Cubemonkey, I don`t understand the bit about writing articles about what we do.  What do we write them for, and where do we send/put them?

Craig, how can we make it so the pages load faster?  We have some weird syntax we were trying to get some keywords in the first part of the pages, but we`ll have to work on that so it`s a little more smooth.  We`ll get on the "return to services" link and the like.  The scheduler is something that we will incorporate into our site in the future, but have it as it is to try to save some cash early on.  Most people find it easy to use and we`ve gotten great feedback from people who use it though.  Do people not google to find local businesses?  That would be my first inclination, but maybe I`m an out lier.  We`ll work on the merchant circle and COC.  Thanks.

You have been big helps! keep it coming, and I`ll let you know when we have the updates done.

Thanks,

Yeah, as for that, I`m not sure.  I have been trying to do stuff that I learned on this site about making the site more noticible for search engines.  We want to be on the first page if someone is looking for a chiro in Pittsburgh.  I have joined several forums and tried to get ideas, and have been attempting to network with other health professionals to link our sites.  So far nothing has been exceptionally helpful (or easy), but we`ll keep trying new things and figure it out.  Sorry, no revelations here.

Since beginning the quest about 3 weeks ago, we have moved up several (about 6) pages in google, but I don`t know exactly why.

Hi,

I have recently started some chiropractic care myself so I was interested in looking at your site. It`s great that your patients can sign up online, but are you eliminating a lot of patients that don`t use a computer?  Maybe ones that have stopped using a computer so often because their backs are so bad when sitting??  My chiropractor did  a short news clip (which is also featured on his site) on computer neck, which makes sense to me.  Just think of all the children using computers with terrible posture. They might have some real problems when they age.  A good chiropractor provides a valuable service.  Just make sure your services can be found by everyone.

I read your blog.  Great idea getting out and meeting other Doctors. Offering fitness training is great too. I`m not sure it`s as important  how your site looks as much as the ability for new patients to find you and find it easy to sign up for their own appt.

Anyway, don`t forget to add your customers testimonials.  My chiropractor has wonderful testimonials on his site, and I will be writing one too!

If yoiu`ve only been keeping an eye on this for about 3 weeks, then give it some time. Google rankings (and other search engines) don`t happen all that quickly, y`know? :-) That you`re moving UP instead of down is a good sign.

Do you have Google Analytics on your pages? If not, put the code on your index page, at least. It`ll help you see how many people are viewing your site, and where they`re coming from. That`ll give you some feedback you can use.

In terms of SEO---search engine optimization---you`ll want to really use your analytic mind to work out what anyone in the local area would try searching for. For example, they`d likely type in "chiropractor Pittsburgh" as the most obvious. Be sure you have a least 6 instances of that phrase on your home page in such a way that it reads smoothly. Then look at other phrases.

I`ll assume you`re in the Yellow Pages, so check the online version to see. After you`re in the main book, you`ll find that over time, your info migrates all over the Web to every other source of phone numbers and addresses.

Have you joined the local Chamber of Commerce? If so, check to see if they have a Web site and that you`re listed. Take a look at Merchant`s Circle and get a listing there. The more "inbound" links connecting to your site, the more SEs like Google will consider your site to be relevant to a lot of people.

Again, the white papers and articles you write can be posted both on the site, but also on other sites---maybe forums, free article services, and so forth. Each article should include a link reference to your main page.

So, if we put some information that is not necessarily related to our practice, just health and chiropractic in general, that would help?  We have some informational brochures and packets, so maybe we`ll put a pdf version out there.  What can we do to speed up the loading time?  Sometimes it seems to lag a bit.
