Does my website really look like a 8 year old built it?

I got rid of the top logo for now (still working on it) and changed the colors: the orange stripe really poped out! never really thought about it before! I also wrapped the text around the pictures on a few pages...take a look again if you`d like  www.whineranddiner.net  Yes, the  logo at the bottom of the pages is a little stretched out... Thank you very much for your clever suggestions Steve.

I`m confused as to why it`s "Whiner" and not "Winer", but ... ok.

Things I think could use some improvement:
* Lighter gray text on white background. Try dark gray, like #333 or #666.
* Font hierarchy. You use a red font at the top but it should be larger.
* Fonts used. Your top paragraph is sans-serif, and then it breaks into serif.
* Number of product photos.
* Random words. "Our Tester Bird" ... is ??

BUT ... here is the REAL problem. You are selling pet feeders at somewhere around $175. I can buy a stainless steel dog dish which works just fine for about $5. In order to get that high end client, you need someone who is used to paying high end prices. Go look at the sites for Hummer, Pottery Barn, Macy*s, and Williams Sonoma. High end customers expect high end sites. If even one person thinks your site was designed by an 8 year old, what do the others who didn`t say anything think? If you want to sell at high end prices, you need a site that projects quality and refinement to attract the kinds of shoppers who pay $500 for a dress, $2K for a couch .... or $150 for a dog dish.

Nikole makes a great point.  I hadn`t looked enough at your product pricing and I agree, the site design should cater to a more refined crowd.

I think the kind of template you are using makes this difficult.  But one thing you might do is work with the colors.  There`s something about that green which I don`t think works - at least in comparison to the other colors on the site.  It looks sort of bland with the white and gray.  You ought to try using colors associated with the wine industry, like deep reds, golds and so forth.  That will spruce up the site more.

And I know you said you were working on the logo for the header and while I think it`s better than before, it still needs some better design.  The dog facing away from the page is poor composition and the weird shapes around the dog`s head are just that, weird.

There`s not enough photos, and the ones that are there aren`t very good.

I did make some changes. Please, just don`t tell me it`s too red...I actuallly like it! It looks like  "William-Sonoma Elegant" (Thanks Nikole!)...I will work on my Logo issue.
Thank you so much for your help.

It`s too wide now.  I have a large widescreen and my browser window takes up much of it.  Your site stretches to fill all of it.  I liked the format better of your last version.  This layout isn`t working.  However, the colors are an improvement.  Keep looking at colors on other sites and go right ahead, steal their palettes.  This is a good way for a non-designer to get an idea of color theory.

I will suggest though that you might think about hiring a web designer to better cater to your target market.

But I can tell you`re working hard and making progress.  So good for you!

Maybe something more like this sample site?
