Hi Amanda :-) Welcome back....
I think a whole lot of us here on SuN can identify with having to operate on a shoestring budget.
I like the overall redesign layout, but you have one major problem,
which I think is going to be pretty easy to fix: the black text on
chocolate brown background. It`s almost impossible to read.
One option would be to go with an ivory text on the existing
background, but I`m not a huge fan of reverse contrast sites. On the
other hand, when it isn`t an informational site, it can work...as long
as the font size is reasonable.
The other option would be to lighten up your background color to
something compatible with the rest of the site, but providing a strong
contrast with black.
You have a "fade" or blend along the top, in the bar under the
"Welcome," which is visible between the top-left picture and your logo.
In that blend, you offer all the shades of brown you`re using. What if
you change the backing of the text in the middle of the pages to:
R-224, G-190, B-163 (HEX: #E0BEA3), or along those lines?
It would still offer a contrasted "box" for your content, but would be light enough to read the black type. Maybe?
I didn`t want to go all around the site when I couldn`t easily read
what you`re saying, so thought I`d limit my comment to only this one
problem. But I do like the new layout...! Definitely an improvement. :-)
