According to MarketingPilgrim.com, 25 percent of people when placed in front of a computer couldn`t find Google.

I find that absolutely fascinating.

Here`s my question: Do you think we need remedial internet for inexperienced users?

Doesn`t surprise me too much. As a writer who always strives to put the reader first, I try to remember that:
a) not everyone understands things the way I do, and
b) I should never forget this.

What never fails to amaze me is how many people just can`t understand why everyone isn`t as smart and talented as they are when it comes to technology. Tech writers call these people "engineers."

I wonder how many of those people studied, also were sort of pleased with the fact that they didn`t know a damn thing about computers. It`s that sort of, "Oh look at me! I`m just a silly old dummy. Isn`t that quaint."

By now, most people who want to take lessons on computers, have done so or they`re doing so. Those who don`t want to know about computers have chosen that option as well. If there was a need for remedial instruction, wouldn`t we see a lot of businesses out there offering such a service?

That`s an interesting and surprising statistic. I do know a lot of people who can`t navigate their way around their desktop and e-mail, much less a browser. But as CraigL said, they`re people who have no interest in the Internet or computers and are pleased to be so.

One of the reasons I think AOL has crashed so badly is that they continued for too long to be "Internet for Dummies" after a good deal of the population had figured out the World Wide Web. They were great when people didn`t know the different between WWW & Archie or didn`t even know how to access the Internet. Once the public got savvy and browsers got easy, AOL was suddenly behind the curve.

That`s a really excellent point, Darrin. :-) You`re right: AOL was indeed the remedial platform for the Internet.
