Wer`e starting a new company. Are stock options still relevant (to motivate early employees and give them a sense of ownership)? What laws have change recently regarding stock optiions?

Last time I noticed, YES, stock options were very commonly employed in new ventures, expecially those high tech start-ups. You may google for examples. BTW, my business law class was last semester, about 3 months ago.
