yep, think before you pink! For a more realistic view of the struggles with cancer and the industries claiming to be funding a cure, check out HurricaneVoices.org
The first step in slowing cancer is to insist companies stop making products that cause cancer. You`ll find lists of these companies and their products at HurricaneVoices.org.
It angers me greatly when I see companies capitalize on the misfortune of others. From the Firefighter boot scams that were rampant after 911, to the construction scams after Katrina and the worst off all, the "help the children" type of scams that rob good hearted peoples and do nothing to help anyone.
The best thing we can do for any charity is to get directly involved or somehow minimize the number of hands through which charitable donations pass.
Don`t be embarrassed to question the efforts of a supposed charity. Research their history. Ask for a financials report. Being skeptical is not being stingy, it`s being responsible and letting charities know that people care enough to make sure that good hearted efforts should not be taken for granted or abused.

Hi MiteyMite,
I agree with the fact that there are many realistic struggles & challenges that comes with Cancer.....or any disease or disaster. However, anyone who has gone thru a life threatening disease, knows that the last thing you need to worry about is the financial debt caused by their Cancer or Disease. The stress of debt & some I know who`ve lost their home, jobs or even family members because of it, is something we don`t need in addition to the Cancer or Disease. See Cancerdebt.com or Cancerdebt.org for further details & information on this serious issue.
Hi Eric,
I agree with you on the checking up on the charities you deal with. I am a Cancer Survivor myself so I understand. It`s very sad that this world has come to that. I feel the 911 scams says something seriously tragic about the society we live in today. Same thing with Cancer Walks, Cancer Research or any Charity Scam. Sad to say though, that those whom I`ve come across with serious needs, are not getting the help they need. Oh, yeah, they may be getting the medical help, but in the mean time, they can`t work, they get behind in bills, their homes & vehicles get repo`d, etc, etc. I just rcv`d an email about a family who was evicted from their apartment because they got behind in rent due to Cancer Debt. They had to move in with someone they barely know, Mrs is terminal & Mr doesn`t know what to do or where to go. An out of state friend saw my website & emailed me to see if we can find help for this family. My website/charity is new and I am looking for those to help get it going Nationwide.....so I/We can help people like this! I am victim of Cancer Debt, and my heart goes out to people like this......and it`s more common than you can even imagine. Fortunately, I`m not losing my home, but I just can`t believe we allow this kind of thing to happen when we send all kinds of money to cancer research & charities as well as pharmaceutical companies. People out there are making money on T-shirts, ribbons & you name it.....all in the name of Cancer. That`s a National Tragedy!
By the way, there are many Cancer Charities out there, but none that will help you with your Cancer Debt. They will however, help if you do not have Insurance and they will help with your medications, but that`s not all there is to Cancer Debt. Anyone who has experienced serious Cancer Debt will understand.
