Hi CharlesISO,

I have visited datadepositbox.com and they do have a partner program which allows you to use their software for your own companies purpose. That is more along the lines of what I am searching for. I have found several others like Novastar and Asigra. The nice thing about Asigra is that they allow you business name and logo on their software, which means that your client will never know that it is using an Asigra product because your company name and logo are on it.

Thanks!

SourceHosting makes money using OpenSource software.  They take software they get for free, manage the computers to run it on, and charge a service fee to customers.

They don`t have to pay license fees to anyone.  In fact, they don`t really need programmers either.  If you want to modify the software you may need a programmer, but you may not need to employ one.

CVS is a soruce code versioning system.  It keeps track of computer source code, who changes it, what changed, and assigns it version numbers.  Using CVS I know exactly what code a program was built with.

Bugzilla is a defect tracking system.  When someone finds a bug or has a feature request they complete a ticket describing where they found it, what it does (or doesn`t do), its severity, and the system assigns it to a programmer.

SourceHosting has built a business around those two OpenSource projects by providing that service on their computers to companies like our own that want to use CVS and Bugzilla but don`t want to manage them themselves.

There is all kinds of software written by programmers on their off-hours for reasons non-programmers may never understand that is excellent quality and new business can be developed from without any licensing costs.

We use lots of open source software ourselves.  For some of it we pay companies license fees to manage or maintain it.  In every instance the cost is either free, or competitive.

You have a very valid point. I very much agree with the cost and benefits of using opensource software. I am going to have to download some and try out to see how it works for me.

So if you don`t mind me asking what does your company pay this kind of service and how much space does the company get. If I under correctly, your customers fianncial data is backed up on their servers, right?

I guess that is the kind of service I am trying to provide, but I have some other ideas for services in addition to this. I will keep you posted.

Thanks!

George, you`ve probably already read this, but in case you didn`t I thought I`d share something that recently arrived in my email from ComputerWorld.
Opinion: The Internet could eliminate local backup

In my mind, what makes Cleversafe.org disruptive is the concept of global data persistence. If your application`s data is always available from the grid, why back it up locally?
