Getting added to DMOZ is at the discretion of the editorial team.  I got my wife's photography website listed www.LarissaPhotography.com , but I haven't submitted my own website yet.  I guess I need to give that a try soon.

Have you made sure that you have quality content on your website before submitting?

It takes forever to get listed. Becoming an editor isn't easy either, as they do not accept many people. I finally got my site, http://www.brazilianbikinis.us accepted in DMOZ. Took a year. Best thing to do is submit it and move on.

Frankly speaking I had negative idea about DMOZ listing but after going through the opinion of every members in this thread, its clear that listing not possible but time taking. And I should give a try.

Should I just post once and be patient - or post in a number of different areas in hope of finding an editor who is active and adding listings - or would multiple tries put one in the DMOZ sandbox?

I think the best thing to do with DMOZ is submit and don't worry about it. Multiple submits of the same site will more than likely get you blacklisted as is the case with most directories.

It can potentially take a year to be listed in DMOZ, if you ever are. Follow the guidelines word for word, submit, and then don't worry about it.

Remember, although DMOZ has traditionally held great value with search engines, it is only one site on the web.
