OK - here goes  -

Not too bad; a few suggestions from top to bottom -

So far the top 80% of the screen ( for "regular" monitors ) is all fluff, with too much white space wasted.

Make the logo a bit smaller (30-40%) and drop the border. Add a tag line / positioning line "The best place to discover handmade artisan crafts." or something like that so people know what they are there for. It will also make the header shrink.

Take all the text and the photo you have in the "sponsors" area and move it up into the header - it will all fit nicely if you design it well. And make the header more colorful and appealing - right now it`s drab and kind of lifeless -

Now you can delete the sponsor area altogether.

Make all the images in the catalog the same size - height and width - and be consistent there - with varying sizes it looks rollercoaster-ish ( technical term). Try to get better close ups and use an inset box to show the details of the far away image shots (camo dangle earrings for example)

Drop the mauve background behind the images - it is not consistently applied because all the images are different sizes and is distracting to the art.

That ought to keep you busy for a few minutes! let me know if you need photoshop help on the header (no charge).

Visually it`s OK .... I like the colors, although the dark text within the colors doesn`t stand out too well. I think you could utilize the top of the page better .... you have a large blank area at the top right, and open space in the sponsors area .... I would combine both into the top without getting it too cluttered .... this would fill it in niclely and get your products a little higher on the page.

On the main page, the right sidebar makes it crowded .... maybe move this to the left under the menu so it isn`t so cramped, and this would also extend the menu with the very tall page you have.

Getting into the categories, it looks like an auction, which isn`t mentioned on the main page, so you might want to make that aspect more prominent upfront .....  again, dark text/dark background isn`t helpful ....

If possible, create unique page titles for every page with unique descriptions, add alt tags to the product images, and get some h1/h2 tags in there for SEO help. A sitemap would help for visitors and search engines. URL rewriting would also be beneficial.

I`ll bet that I am the oldest grump here!

Sharon - I like the concept and the colors, and I understand your "featured artists" on the right side.  I am just guessing that this is where artists who pay will find themselves here once in a while?

I also understand that you really can`t control the photos uploaded by the artists.

Your About page shouldn`t be so hidden.  And, I really don`t like the all-centered text.  (That may be just me).

The site doesn`t much sell a reason to shop on the site. It`s just a bunch of products laid out in a row.

Hi guys, ive recently joined the forums, i was kinda looking for a post to reply too, rather than just jump straight in and start talking about my website, but to be honest, it would just be spam, since i have no knowledge about anything related to website design, as you can probably guess if you do view mine.

Its in my sig, its a small bodybuilding board, renamed after my goodfriend died.
I created the title logo myself, do you think it looks ok?
Would it be better for me to install some type of portal so that the forum are within the portal?
Im desperately trying to generate some traffic for my site, which if im lucky will have a handful of hits per day, hehe.

lovely forums guys, so wel laid out, with vibrant colors, thanks for the invite Jen!

So far it looks fine. I would switch places the "remembering JD" with the "bodybuilding forum". However, if you want to drive traffic, what about a blog? Give your customers some insights about the site and the subject matter. This is a good way to cross reference your site.

Have you thought about a mobile site? You can put your blog on a mobile website. Think about that. I have mine on a mobile site. People can even pay for services that way as well.
