Hi,

OsCommerce (or ZenCart) once installed is ready to use as an ecommerce program.
However, you would want to make it look unique... which would require some graphic and/or coding work. You can also start with a template designed for osCommerce or ZenCart... to change the look of the default layout.

I provide website hosting. With my hosting (as with other providers) I can installed osCommerce (or ZenCart, and other programs). OsCommerce (and ZenCart) is open source and FREE.

Yes, that is the standard set-up for osCommerce or ZenCart (register before a purchase).
$83 per year is an estimated cost for hosting... additional costs would be the cost (annual) for an SSL (recommended) and the cost of credit card processing (depending upon who you use.. PayPal or cc merchant account).

As far as the set up and/or design for the site.... I can provide you with a quote.  I sent you a PM.

~Roland

Response to Roland

I have been designing a site using DreamWeaver 8, so far I have created the following pages:  home, sign in (new & return visitors), about us, terms & conditions, and begun working on the what I term the master product page (for lack of different descriptor). I have other pages that are need to be designed in waiting. I also have started and inventory list which I have done in Excel (product name, retail cost, discounted cost, description, etc), and a picture folder for all the images.  The design aspect isn`t much of a problem.  It`s the piece of how do I get it operate as a membership driven site.

Did I read your response correctly, you said that you could install the OScommerce open source for Free? Is that like the ready made templates that one can work within laid out desigin structure?

OK I am kind of anal, and will ask the same question over and over, please bear with me.  The estimated $83  is the yearly cost for hosting.  What is SSL recommendations?  As stated in my last reply, I am in the process of designing the site myself, but you said you could assist with set up what does that entail.

As you can read I am not computer literate at all.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi,
There are a few different SSL option each with a different price.

The default template is rather plain, but the colors and header image can be changed.
An osCommerce template can provide a more appealing look.

Are you set on osCommerce? I recommend ZenCart over osCommerce at this time (I`ve used both) because ZenCart is a little ahead of osCommerce in features, etc right now.

It might be best to have a conversation by phone about your questions.

I sent you a PM / private message.  To read it click on your SUN user name
and go to "my mailbox".

You can PM me or go to vwebworld.com and email or contact me... send me your phone#, and I`d be happy to talk you to about all your questions.

Using an ecommerce program like osCommerce or ZenCart... provides the "membership"/login to purchase function.

I think you have to back up and define what it is that you want. You talk about a member-driven site, and then product pages, and then information pages ... what is your product? Is yours a paid membership site, or a free membership? Do you just want to have user accounts, or are people paying for a subscription to have their membership?

I had made some assumptions based on your original post (as did other people here), but I`m not sure what you are after at this point. So I think defining that is key to discovering your answer ... what is it that you are offering? Products, information, subscription-based (paid or not) information? What is the purpose of the membership, and what is the model by which you are operating?

Probably a little late to the game here, but my developer partner and I just launched an eCommerce site with Magento open source and are QUITE happy. There`s one little glitch right now that has us scratching our heads, but you`re going to run into that from time to time.

You responded to my post previously about the member driven website that I was in the process of creating.  Is there a way we can talk via phone.

If you want full dynamic interactive membership site features look at Drupal, Joomla, and Wordpress.
