I am designing a member driven website using Dreamweaver 8.  I could use some advice.  The kind of site I am constructing allows non-members to browse, but they will be prompted to register if they are first time visitor or sign in if they are return visitors, this could either be done from the home page, check out page or browsing product page.  How can I use OS to accomplish this (someone told me I could us OScommerce, but I know nothing about the use of OS, totally new).  Is there any webhosting company that are reasonably price that could assist me?

osCommerce is an ecommerce program... you can require or not require people to "register" before they can view products (which is ok if you only sell to "members". Registration can also be a required option to make a purchase.

I provide hosting compatible with osCommerce depending upon your needs hosting for a starting ecommerce site is around $83 per year.

If you have any questions, PM or email me.

You might want to take at Expression Engine or SilverStripe. Both are content management systems (CMS) that have membership built-in and offer `ecommerce` add-on modules to manage puchases and subscriptions.

Depending on the type of membership you`re offering, OScommerce might not be the right route.

You might want to look at Joomla or WordPress, there are components and Plugins for these that allow you to setup a membership site.

If you want full dynamic interactive membership site features
look at Drupal, Joomla, and Wordpress.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree building any
complex member-driven site with DreamWeaver.

I prefer Drupal but there are several CMS systems that
can do what you want.  Drupal and Joomla will handle
massive user-bases, Wordpress won`t.

I can complete design my site using by going to drupal.com or joomla.com.  Is it terrible difficult to create a member driven website such as www.newyorkbuyersclub.com.

That site looks like an osCommerce ecommerce website.

It doesn`t look like members interact with each other
in that site, create content, blogs, forums, etc... which
makes it much simpler.  Basically you are doing some
sort of shopping cart thing like Roland says.

Opensource site development is exciting - meaning
you have to figure stuff out for yourself - but the
rewards are nice.

You can integrate a shopping cart with a Dreamweaver
site too. It`s just easier to build a E-commerce site these
days with a CMS instead of HTML builder.  Makes
the site easier to sell too if you want to get rid of it and
move onto something else.

For membership sites that don`t require hard coding, check out Joomla with virtuemart OR Wordpress with wp-member. I`ve been browsing for CMS components that allow multiple levels of memberships and wp-member might be worth giving a try...

How do I go about utilizing OsCommerce to create a ecommerce shopping cart program?
Is there a specific website you could recommend?

You mention in your first reply that you provide the service listed below:  Elaborate...

Can you go to www.newyorkbuyersclub.com site.  What I am want to create is a  similar site.  Where new visitors can browse, put items in their shopping cart, but when come to checking out they will be prompt to log in. New visitor can also create an account from the home page. Regular visitor who purchased from the site can do the same, log in from the home page or before checking out.  I hope I am not being redundant. site is around $83 per year.
