I have a sevice that  that offers a self service format for me to desing my own site ,

but their restrictions on band width are limiting.  Is it true that Once I publish a site  , it is easy to duplicate it and put in on a  different service.

The service is  www.storesonline.com    and my web hosting is  www.fatnetwork.com   any experiences with either,

I can tell you that storesonline  would  probably not be something that I would recommend to others,  so far..

Mike,

It is true that you can move or duplicate your site to another host. However, if you are using the hosting plus the merchant services of a give store like storesonline, then it might be a bit harder since you would need to link your site to their service in order to have your clients complete the shopping process. If need to then, I would recommend that you get a one in all package like the one offered by Yahoo Merchant Solutions. If you need more help, let me know.

Hey Mike,

Not familiar with Storesonline or FatNetwork.  It is pretty easy to copy someones website, however the Domain Name cannot be duplicated.

If interested in other Hosting or Design options, check out www.ImageMarketingGroup.net

Here Is the thing Mike
Did you use a tool like sitebuilder to create your web site?
Although, the web site can be duplicated, you can not point your domain name at two different servers. If you are using a proprietary charge system, you might run into trouble. What is your Bandwidth Limit?

Keep in mind that you may also need to transfer the database (containing your products, categories & orders), which appears from their site to be in a proprietary format. Even if they do give you a backup of the data moving it to another cart like OSCommerce or CubeCart can be tricky. Just my 2 cents!

If it`s OSCOMMERCE, you can always back up the whole database and as long as you "name your the database, the same on your new web host, all you have to do is, export and import your database. This is called Database Migration (make sure you back it up before exporting it though.
Now if your shopping cart is in someother language... you`re better off starting from scratch..
How many items do you have on your current, shopping cart?

If you have over 300... You are in trouble...But it can be done..

Thank You all,

Let me start from scratch.

We are starting a Membership web site.  Our resources  at the moment are

I have limited HTML experience, I can put together a basic informational web site but our needs are more than that and I don`t have the knowledge or confidence to go it on my own.

I Purchased a storesonline.com  license acouple years ago based on a promise that was made to me only to find out that what I wanted was an additional fee, but the program that they offer, which I already own offers everything we need.  I will add that I feel I was severally violated by SOL and have no desire to do business with  or partner with anybody that does business that way.

We currently have the membership program already formated ready to implement.

We have a limited budget to continue with.

I currently have a fatnetwork  wholesale aacount which I intended to use for my own uses, Plus for those who I know that may also need them.  My thoughts were to use fat network after we developed our desired web site using the stores online resources because of the wider bandwith and  web hosting resources available.

My question, my offer, my needs are as follows,

we need web hosting which I already have access to, web design in which I have already purchased assistance with,  we need subscription billing for the membership in which will be our source of income.

If anybody has any offers, advice, or suggestions with the directions we should go next if they feel we are heading in the wrong direction, I am always open for ideas,  and  am willing to helpmout those who help me.

Who we ultimately decide to hoste with really makes little difference to me as long as I don`t feel like I`m getting ripped off.

BTW I am somewhat familiar with domaine names and rights,  I have about 8 names I intend to develop in the near future.

For what its worth Joomla (joomla.org), Community Builder (a plugin for joomla), and PHPBB (phpbb.com) all put together make it almost trivial to setup community sites. Best of all their all FREE!

GigCalendar.net is an example of a community site built around joomla. It doesn`t make use of either community builder or phpbb but it can give you an idea of what you might expect.

Mike,

In order to create a community based website, I would recommend that you take a look at www.drupal.org, which is a content management system that is easy to implement and manage. As for creating a forum, I would also suggest that you strongly consider www.phpBB.com, which a software that is free and allows you to create a forum with administrative restrictions. These restrictions can be set by the administrator to implement a system through which the users can become members of the community upon making a payment or a donation  to the community. In order to put these two elements to work, you need to make sure that your hosting includes php/MySQL capabilities. If you need more assistance or explanation please let me know.
