Hi,

A friend of mine in Belize has a cookie that she has made and
sold for about 10 years an now wants to sell it in the states.

My idea at this point is to contact the Star Bucks Corporate
office and pitch it to them as it is great with coffee drinks.

I wanted to get some feed back before proceeding.

Thank you.

Just my thoughts

Starbucks has cut way back on their food items.  The founder took back control and wants to turn Starbucks back into a coffee house.  They still sell cookies, but may not want to expand their food items.  You might want to try pitching to McDonalds as well.

Hi,
Don`t know if you heard, but Starbucks is doing MAJOR restructuring to try and retain their current client base. They are cutting costs wherever possible, including saving labor by using a single banana bread recipe instead of 11. These are tough times...Mrs. Fields Cookies filed for bankruptcy just this August. My advice is to wait for a better economic climate or approach a company that specializes in cookie-based products.

Thank you nevadascul, danielcim, I did not know that.

So, what do you do at this point?

We want them manufactured here in the states
but you have to order 300 or 3,000 cases at a
time.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Mrs. Fields seems to have made a pretty good business out of selling only a chocolate chip cookie.

No, we are wanting to manufacture here in the states.

It cost her $30.00 to send a box of 30 cookies from Belize
to me in Texas. So not very cost effective.

Also, just so every one that reads this knows, she has been
making these and selling them in Belize for 5 or 6 years.

The people there love them.

Thank you for asking Grill Charmer.

Wow, $1 per cookie, definitely not very cost effective. Yes, the plan should be to manufacture in the U.S., out of the basement of your house if you must. Keep the costs down as much as possible. Then, start promoting the cookie by distributing it to local pastry or corner shops. Your goal should be to build up a solid local client base before approaching the larger chains.

How about an on-line cookie store?

Okay, good idea.

Now, what are the rules or laws concerning baking out of your home
and then selling to local shops?

Thank you for your input.
