grabitpack, Gosh, I didn`t mean it was luck.  I meant because you`re customers were happy to do so, because of you and your product, and the way you conduct business! I love your grabitpack, and hope you`re not upset with me now too..  I use it when I`m shipping! It works great.

I`m sure everyone who was in the contest wanted to win, I am not sure how they judged.. But many promoted this contest in different ways.

It`s funny how NOT ONE of the winners did any promotion in the forums on the very site they "won".

Wow - I that`s a very unfair statement.  I know that DipLady, houseofjerkyjanie, myself, and several others did a lot of competition promotion on the SuN forums in posts, with links in our signatures and more.

From the very beginning of the competition I felt that SuN team made it very clear that the number of votes was not going to be the only consideration for being named in the top 100 - I assumed that part of the result was going to be in "how we played the game."  We don`t know what all went into their decisions - perhaps they will let us know.

Yes, the top 100 and the honorable mentions can be considered winners - but I don`t see how any business that participated can be considered a loser.  Just by participating, and getting out there to campaign, every contestant increased the marketing, promotion and public awareness of their business venture.  Some participants used the contest to introduce their businesses to a whole new audience - I certainly learned about a lot of new companies.

For me, the competition presented a great opportunity to test marketing and promotion of my entry through social media, social networking, Twitter, blogging, press releases, site updates, signature files and so much more.  It was fun to see a community of customers, other SuN members, design industry peers, family and friends get behind my effort in the competition.  I learned a great deal about how I will go about marketing my business in the future.

Even if I had not been one of the 100 "winners" my business would have already "won." The exposure during the course of the competition has been incredibly valuable.  It`s now time for me to work on maintaining the momentum  in continuing to market my business in tough economic times.

Again, congratulations to the Home-Based 100 and Honorable Mentions  - and best wishes for the continued success of all who participated in fun, educational and valuable experience.

So well said Jeff.  I have followed your growth through the years, and  what you just said , is why you are, the winner you are.  I just wanted to take a minute to congratulate you, for your incredible drive and the success you have found.

We all have to keep on striving to find success for our small business, to learn how to sell, market, or whatever is your need to do to  make your business a success.  And as Jeff said, in these economic times, it might be more difficult than it has been before.

But no reason to stop doing the most effective things you can do, to improve your business, or get it going even stronger.  I am gratelul for what we learn here, thanks!.  .

It`s funny, but when I commented on Jeff`s post, I`d looked at the list and didn`t see our name on any of the winner lists; only later did I read we`d tagged an Honorable Mention (we won the prize of everyone`s email addy on that list! inside joke) which looks an "everyone is special" kind of award;  point being, it is nice and we will squeeze it for more media if we can, but we do have to continue doing what we do regardless of any outside "validation".

I`d just hate for anyone on any list (or not on a list) to think this is the end of the road or that the rewards are worth anything outside of what you put into your business on a daily basis; I can tell you that we`ve "won" some stuff which I`d think would take us over the top and don`t, and done some stupid things which create extraordinary results, but it has always been the daily grind of just being "there" that gets us further down the path of our journey ... everything is water off of a duck`s back and the best thing is to just keep your head down pounding away, rain or shine.

Congrats to all winners and honorable mentions!!

I received an email from Rich addressed to "winners and honorable mentions" but I don`t see my name on any of the lists.  Did any other non winners or honorable mentions get this?

Also, last I checked I had over 1000 votes, but wasn`t mentioned on highest vote getters.  I`m not being a sore loser because I truly enjoyed the process and I did get some business and media mentions from my campaign - I`m just wondering if anyone else had high votes (over 1000) and were not mentioned?

Amanda, I have no idea of the number of votes, but just wanted to congratulate you on yours!!! Not sure about the email you received but, you might try to message Rich, to ask him, even though I`m sure he`s overwhelmed with what is going on.

Great post Chris, and I use my tacos on some of our boxes that need to be held open!.  And congratulations to Pam, Dip Lady that is running such a successful business!!

Amanda, I still need to get my apples!:)

Again, congratulations all, whether or not you participate in this thread /forum, or had the votes.. Start Up Nation gave us all a great opportunity with this contest.  They had it last year and they will have it again, so you can continue to participate in this opportunity. I was excited to win also!

I emailed Rich later that day, but I agree, I`m sure he is very busy.  I feel partly responsible myself for not being listed as a winner.  I started out with a good campaign here and through my own efforts, and our votes were "on fire", but once my late october to mid november business rush started I just didn`t have the time to follow through here in the forums.  Business is great right now though.  My website business is holding steady and I`m opening up a new location in my local mall so I`m super excited.
Janie - Congrats again! and I haven`t forgotten about you.  Just send me a private email with an address and what you want and they`ll be on their way.

Greetings to ALL Competition Contestants!

I want to send CONGRATULATIONS to ALL who arrived on the startupnation.com site and entered the competition.  As with any competition, you discover that there are lots of very interesting ideas and intelligent people who have a vision for the future.  Everyone had an equal opportunity to share their small business venture, with not only their patrons/customers, but also experts and visitors to the site.  Visiting the Startup Nation site, even if you only read the post by other members, offers a wealth of information.  Keep up the good work!

I also want to offer my SINCERE BEST WISHES and CONTINUED SUCCESS to the 2008 Home based 100 Winners and Honorable Mention.

A special "Thank You" to Rich & Jeff for their idea that got this whole thing started and the great team that they put together to help us all!

Hope the marketing/promotion of SuN Home-Based 100 results is going well.  Here`s the press release I posted online and sent out yesterday:

Toot! Toot!*: StartupNation names Jeff Fisher LogoMotives one of nation`s top 100 home-based businesses

Within an hour of sending it out to my email list the release was posted on the international industry site dexinger as front page news and as the entire press release.

Good luck with your "tooting" -  and have a great Thanksgiving weekend!
