It`s funny how NOT ONE of the winners did any promotion in the forums on the very site they "won".
Wow - I that`s a very unfair statement. I know that DipLady, houseofjerkyjanie, myself, and several others did a lot of competition promotion on the SuN forums in posts, with links in our signatures and more.
From the very beginning of the competition I felt that SuN team made it very clear that the number of votes was not going to be the only consideration for being named in the top 100 - I assumed that part of the result was going to be in "how we played the game." We don`t know what all went into their decisions - perhaps they will let us know.
Yes, the top 100 and the honorable mentions can be considered winners - but I don`t see how any business that participated can be considered a loser. Just by participating, and getting out there to campaign, every contestant increased the marketing, promotion and public awareness of their business venture. Some participants used the contest to introduce their businesses to a whole new audience - I certainly learned about a lot of new companies.
For me, the competition presented a great opportunity to test marketing and promotion of my entry through social media, social networking, Twitter, blogging, press releases, site updates, signature files and so much more. It was fun to see a community of customers, other SuN members, design industry peers, family and friends get behind my effort in the competition. I learned a great deal about how I will go about marketing my business in the future.
Even if I had not been one of the 100 "winners" my business would have already "won." The exposure during the course of the competition has been incredibly valuable. It`s now time for me to work on maintaining the momentum in continuing to market my business in tough economic times.
Again, congratulations to the Home-Based 100 and Honorable Mentions - and best wishes for the continued success of all who participated in fun, educational and valuable experience.
