I have a Private Investigative Firm (Investigative Professional Services) and I want to start another business. I`m a member with Startup Nation and have requested ideas for my business in the past. I plan to start a Collection Agency in Arizona and I`m looking for a name for my new enterprise.

I`m interested in a one word name to define this business. Quantam Collection Agency. But as you know this one is taken. My office is located on the borders of California, Arizona, and Nevada. Tri State Collections (ie)

Thank you SN in advance for your continued support.

use something that is not too descriptive of goods/services - so you can register with USPTO.

As is often the case in these types of discussion, you have two basic pathways. The one is to produce an idea of the product or service within the name itself. The other is to choose ANY name that suits your fancy, then use "branding" to associate that name to the product.

Notice that "Quantum Collection Agency" is three words, and that "Quantum" means nothing (other than to particle physicists) as to money, debts, and collections. So "....collection agency" is included in the name.

Consider HFC, Household Finance Co., where they`re joining your home and financing. Over time, the name became so successful that they trademarked just the initials, similar to IBM.

On the other hand, there are countless companies where the name itself says nothing about the product. Yet with successful branding, we "all" know what the company does. Allstate insurance, known simply as "Allstate" is an example.

You could easily call the company Valdez Collections, or perhaps JV Financial Services; it really doesn`t matter. What counts is first your own perception of what you want or need, and secondly, how well you connect the company`s name to the service you provide.

Just as a consumer speaking, I personally would stay away from any business name with "Collection Agency" in it.  There are some pretty bad implications there for a lot of people.

I wouldn`t believe that you have to be called "XYZ Collection Agency" to actually do collections, so something a little friendlier might be a good call in this economic climate.

I know that for some people, as soon as they see a letter or caller id with the "Collection Agency" on it, you`ve already lost that possible connection!    :)

How about something that defines what you do.
e.g.  conclude, conclusion.

A name such as
In Conclusion
And In Conclusion

Just call yourself "The Debt Collectors". That's straight forward enough!
