Hey PingWorx, I`ve tried the "Cold Call" approach and always ended up depressed, especially if I bought leads who were suppose to be wanting what I offered.  What a waste.  I now have people calling me asking for what I have to offer, really!  Check out my signature link to find out if you like...

Calvin, you have a great idea, just make sure YOU don`t make the calls or pay others to make the calls. Make ONE message to leave on the voice mail and broadcast it to the answering machines. I use Automated Response Technology. I can leave 1000 or 10,000 messgages or more in 30 seconds. All you do is record a messgage, upload your file to their website and click. They`re at www.automaticresponse.com. If you (or anybody else) decide to try them, let me know because I`ll get a credit for referring you :)

Hi There Calvin,

I use to do cold calling for years and it was very time consuming. I no longer have to do that, my prospects call me and I have more time to do other things. I can market all my products using this new technology. Its nice to have your telephone ringing off the hook with interested prospects. It has been a blessing for my business. Voice mail is almost as good as what I use for my business.

Regards,

Hey PingWorx-

Clearly, people are trying to sell you sell you their services rather than offering feedback about cold calling.  Cold calling works, but very few people are willing to put in the time and effort it takes to do it intelligently and generate the results.  I will tell you, once again, The New Conceptual Selling is a solid book that will help you in all areas of your sales process.  The Psychology of Selling is good too, and there is no one that is going make any money off of referring you! :)

First of all, I would find out all of the small to medium size businesses in your area through the web, and then I would call those business owners/managers directly to talk about your services.  If this was two months ago, and you gave me a call with a good "valid business reason", I would have been VERY open to talking to your company about handling our website.  All of these other posts are steering you away from cold calling because they are selling a product.  But it does work, you just have to separate yourself from the 15 other callers that they receive in a week.  I had to go out and find someone to handle our website, but if you had called I would have been very open to your services.  So, my point is, cold calling is tough, and the reponse rates aren`t always the most encouraging, BUT there are people out there who will respond positively if your message is succinct and compelling.  Find out who the local small to medium business are in your area, locate the management, and build a strong case for how your company can "lessen their pain".

Steve,

Once again you make a strong point.  I have been making cold calls, trying different things as far as approach.  But, like you said response rates are tough, but i`ll play percentages.

Is the company that is providing you with web services going to maintain it for you? Are they building it with SEO in mind?  Just curious, maybe there is still room for me to offer some services, haha!!!

I appreciate all your input.

Yaron
