Hi, I have a candy website:  www.GrannsGourmetApples.com.  I have heard alot of buzz recently on viral emails, viral marketing, etc.
Should I set up a myspace or facebook page related to my site?  any ideas for viral emails?  Could this help my company?  Any ideas?
Also, is it tacky to request votes via email to my customer list for the homebased 100 contest?

Hi Amanda,

I`m not an expert on the social media but I have set up some pages for my sites based on where I think our target audience may hang out.  I think over time, it can be useful.

No, I don`t think it is tacky to request votes for your company on email.  I have talked about it in our company newsletters too.  Your customers will want you to do well.

Thanks for the info.  Just another thing I need to add to my to-do list of a million things.  I like both of your sites.  My daughter is in kindergarten I will check back later for one of your kits.

I know this is rather late but I will throw it out here anyway. I am not sure what type of candy you are talking about if it is generic for anyone or adult candy...holiday products or something else. It is always so difficult to provide information in these forums without having more details.

I can tell you that depending on your product you really need to select the best social networking site if at all possible.

1. Facebook (create a Fan page)

Keep the fan page current and interact with your fans, educate them, survey what they like and don't like and interact. Stay on top of the conversation, remember you are the authority.

2. Twitter (create a Twitter page)

Pull together your customers and all folks who love candy. Tweet about candy, new trends, and what you are doing in your test kitchens...talk, talk, talk and then see what your followers are tweeting about...it's work but well worth it.

3.  Create a You Tube video and do a mini commercial about your candy. Keep it under a minute and tell them how to use your candy, why is it good, what should I do with this candy? Is it great dropped in a cranberry martini? Does it make a great gift or can someone order it with a private label e.g. Toni's Chocolate Truffles ...

I could go on but I will stop here. You are going to have to think outside the box. Viral emails...no way, viral marketing is good if done right and is done consistently.

Good Luck!

I just took a look at your website. Everything looks scrumptious! In doing so, I had a thought for you on increasing revenues / generating business - obviously the reason why your thinking about a viral marketing campaign.

My wife and I just had a baby - lots of visitors at the hospital and a number of gifts. The most thoughtful gift we received was a boquet of fruit some of which was chocolate covered. Your products would be great gifts for for a number of life milestones.

Finding online stores for baby gifts, mothers day, valentines etc, may be a better outlet. Visitors will be on those sites looking for gift ideas. Those site owners would be happy to have your products, and you would benefit by having the e-mail address of the person who ordered it.

You could also consider doing Adsense advertising - but only in the days prior to those holidays. The ads could be targeted towards Valentines day gifts, etc. You could run the campaign for only a week at a time and suspend it until the next year.

Just thoughts. Perhaps these are techniques your already using.

Are you running e-mail campaigns around major holidays?
