A high recommendation for StartupNation: Open for business. I also recommend E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. Seth Godin has some great marketing books out that are quick reads. My favorite is The Purple Cow.
Good Luck!!

I am not sure what part of the country you are in but I found the SBA (small business administration) to be a very useful starting place. They can help you come up with a business plan, which is the best place to start also it`s free. http://www.sba.gov/

I read an excellent book about small business blogging called `Blog Wild`. Can`t for the life of me remember the author (Library book) It`s basicaly blogging for dummies. Plus the libray usually has loads of info on business stuff. Anything you could want.
Go directly to the Emyth revisited. Then a Rich Dad book to really "get" the difference between being self-employed and being in business. Followed by the One Page Business Plan book. Purchase any Guerilla Marketing book for ideas.
