Just curious what your biggest frustrations are with the business planning process and the methods generally available?  What improvements do you think are possible?

Having a long term vision, carefully planning future actions, and maintaining faith in the project no matter what others may say, what the economy may say...many times I have gotten discouraged and lost track of midterm objectives. I think it's important to set up some sort of calendar with milestones and carefully plan devlopment over several years. It helps keep things in perspective.

Thinking about my own experience, and the experiences I hear about from customers and clients I would say that the biggest frustration is LACK OF TIME! Business planning ALWAYS takes much longer than you think and most people are busy and have other things to be getting on with - so I usually recommend (seriously) that people think about a mini-plan on how they are going to write their business plan.

My biggest frustration when it comes to business planning is that no matter how well-defined your plan is, someone will either beat you to the execution of your ideas or mess up the great plan you've come up with.  This is why I just simply roll out whatever ideas I have and let my crowd ( customers ) define the perfect business model that they will love.  The last thing you want is to spend years in the making only to have the major frustration of your life simply because no one is liking / loving what your brand has to offer.

there are some solid cases available online for free download. having a good one by your side helps.  that said, your vision and mission must be clear. often times it is not but the process of planning (brainstorming) clarifies it for the entrepreneur as you put the pen to paper.  very helpful exercise. all the best

I find it frustrating when people take too long to execute. You business plan does not have to be perfect. Also, a business plan is not investor ready until they have traction. I find that entrepreneurs don't spend enough time building their business/revenue model and focus way too much on the tech.

I am working on a hybrid - business plan meets early stage Internet marketing approach. The objective is to help the start-up become investor ready by making early stage sales online and gauging scalability by their conversion rate and global monthly searches.

It may suit some business but may not suit others.

Some feedback would be great.

Business planning is very important and the strategies have to be put into practice whenever and wherever required. There is no point if you have a business plan and you don't implement or follow it.

The BUSINESS PLANNING PROCESS is a key activity for any organisation, large or small. It occurs at a number of levels, ranging from creating or revising the vision for an organisation, to developing the strategies to achieve that vision, to preparing the annual plans to implement those strategies. The process is also required to address those significant “change events” ( e.g. loss of key market / key customer, succession planning) that inevitably occur during the life of any organisation. In short the business planning process should determine “How you do business” and should be at the core of all organisations. To be effective, the business planning process must adhere to a structured programme and there are many tools, models & methodologies available to organisations to help maximise the impact of the process. In many instances facilitation enhances the process, but, as a core process, business planning can never be outsourced.

The biggest planning frustration are: incompetent employees and fast cahnges in the business environment. Solution? Flexible plan with many variants.
