Hello Everybody,

I`m doing this after reading a post by Jeff  and finally thinking that it might attract some interests. I`m as my profile indicates, a web developer and I believe that with the help of a good entrepreneur ( operations manager!!!), we could launch and make a succes out of a web design firm.
I have the technical skills, ideas and even plenty of tools ( books, tech. assets ... ), but not much of this marketing spirit to go out  and  promote a  company.
Anybody out there liking what I wrote, please contact me so we could further discuss  it.

    thanks,

P.S.: I live in Alexandria, VA. and someone somewhat  local would be a much better fit.

 so anybody???????????

I`m not sure I`d rush to bring on a partner simply in the name of getting some marketing help.  You might be better off to barter with someone who has marketing experience to get access to the resources you need, and avoid having to share profits, decisionmaking, and the like with someone who contributes nothing to your core competency which is web development.

That`s not to say that marketing isn`t important.  It`s critical to your success. But it`s also available in ways that don`t require you to give up equity in your business.

I`m in Laurel, Maryland by the way.

I am living in Virginia Beach for 2 more weeks then will be back in the Pacific Northwest(anybody know of a day job looking for help) and advise you to be very careful before partnering with anybody. I am just finishing a lease that has cost me money--ignorance can really hurt you. Do credit check, hire an attorney, do background check, interview references, and that`s just for starters--or you might not only miss an opportunity to get a business started, but you might find your self liable for actions and frauds committed by your new partner.

I learned the hard way.

AciJo, consider not a partner in the formal legal sense but consider outsourcing the marketing function (operations manager).

I take it you want to work and just want to do the jobs not chase them etc.

Say to yorself... "What if I had a company (or individual contractor) that could find the clients, deal with them and pass the work to me, I pass it back tweak it etc until its right."

Does that change the landscape a little? sure does, they do the marketing and run around you do the stuff... their stuff is fluff to you so stick with the knitting as they say and ask for not a partner but a source of work...

So consider the benefits, you deal with one person, they do the run around, you get paid for what you want to do,  you avoid the headaches of emplying a person, you have flexibility to add more `operations managers` to feed  you more work (perhaps in other areas) if they don`t bring the work in, you don`t pay them... if they take a holday same thing...

Enjoy thinking about this one. Make life easier not more challenging.

what you said make complete sense and is certainly what I would go for if I could really. the thing is I don`t even think I can hre these per jobs marketers, and I still believe that I would need someone to deal with them ...
