There are such programs out in the marketplace.  SpamArrest is just one option.  There`s a list of some others on MySimon.

I currently use two programs to combat spam in my daily life.

First i "scrub" my mail with a program called MailWasher from Firetrust and in conjunction with that i use the BlueSecurity Blue Frog to help get me off spammers lists. With these two devices i`ve seen a significant drop in the amount of spam i get.

I`m always looking for THE software program but so far it seems like it`s just a combination of stuff.

Your best bet with spam is...
Norton Internet Security and "make sure you integrate it to your Outlook" then with that in place dowload, Ad-aware 6.0 from lavasoft "it`s free" and that is it... I`ve tried other products and nothing worked.. Instead it made my computer`s Lag...Then what you need to do is take an hour out of your valuable day, and unsububscribe to all your spam in your email folder... Or the best thing do not open it... Just right click and delete all messages in folder. The worse is when you open the email.. then they know you opened it...

Mike,

Probably the most effective ones are the ones where a human has to authenticate and then they are added to a safe list.  You are correct, this is a big market AND one that probably won`t go away anytime soon!

It looks like  there may be enough products and services out there to meet the current demand.

I guess my question is...

Is it worth making the effort to make a better mouse trap....hmmmm..  spam elimination program.??

Or is it that people aren`t quite feed up with the extra hassle yet??

To make the effort to come up with a better program or not,  that is my question??

My team deals with this subject everyday.  This is the deal my friend.  If you can make a piece of hardware to sniff all network traffic and eliminate all spam and not eliminate any false positives meaning if your devices blocks a legitimate important email or file transfer this would be very bad.  There are already many devices like this out there however just like the antivirus software/hardware you dont want to block or delete things on a network that are ok.  This makes it a very touchy matter also getting the signatures right and updated perfectly to block all spam is definately impossible.  Are you planning on making a host antispam software application or are you planning on making a server device that would run on enterprise networks.  There is already very good free host software out there so if your competition is giving it away for free and its great quality I wouldnt touch it!!!  The area that could be profitable is hardware/software device for the enterprise network.  good luck let me know if you have any other questions.  Your network/security/programming knowledge has got to be no less then expert to jump into this project. -mark

mmichuda, great grasp of the problem. One more thing though,
maybe you just didn`t elaborate on it. ...You would not only be
creating the software/hardware to run on Windows XP alone,
but also other Microsoft operating systems as well as Unix, Mac
and so others. Cross-platform issues are difficult to overcome.

One last thing… Once you build the “better mouse trap,” the
mouse learns and becomes more difficult to catch. Therefore,
there is a constant research and development strategy that
would never end.

any thoughts or  ideas of a good product or commodity to buy in bulk (maybe from a co-packer) relabel and resell.  Could be anything from hardware (screws, nails) to some kind of food item.  What do you think?

Gee, that’s a pretty open ended question?  Let me ask you this?  What are your interests, hobbies? What do you like to read?  Where do you like to vacation?
Are you active in sports photography?

My point here is to find something that you have an interest/knowledge base with and start from there.  If you were just fishing for interesting answers, mine would be “importing memory cards for digital cameras and phones”.  However this would be more interesting/profitable/, less of a learning cure for some who has a strong knowledge base in this area.  Importing knobs for leather horse saddles might be the biggest thing for 2007, but I don’t have a particle knowledge base in equestrian world and would never venture in that area!

Happy New Year.
