I wasn`t sure which forum would be best for this, as it goes under the Pet Peeves heading. Except it`s worse than a pet peeve! With all the developers out there, could someone explain to me what might be the client reasoning behind trapping my browser so I can`t go back to my search results or do anything else?

Of course I can usually hit the "home" button and go back to my default page (Google), or I can close down and restart the browser, but why? Has there been any kind of statistical reporting as to if this trick does anything whatsoever to benefit a Web site? I just usually set them into my "never-again" list, and never visit the site again.

LOL!! What an excellent video clip! It brings up the entire issue of customer service. :-D

I cancelled my AOL account simply by terminating my credit card they used for billing. When they realized they weren`t getting paid, they switched me to an AIM account, but I never use that anymore either, and it`s free so I don`t care.

This would be analogous to shutting down my browser then restarting and avoiding the site. I can see in some ways why AOL would be so pushy. They`ve always been that way, with nothing online to make it possible to cancel. You HAVE to call a phone number. But a Web site?

I dunno...maybe some people are just stupid. :-)
