I used to be in Army Reserves and currently have a son and daughter-in-law in Security Forces with the Air Force.  My son has just over 60 days left on his first deployment to Iraq.

My buisness is www.militarymomz.com.  I would love you all to visit and give me any suggestions and/or pointers.  My greatest obstacle is gaining exposure to the site.

I am a service-connected disabled veteran of the Vietnam War and have written a novel about my combat experiences and it`s effects. I`m here trying to learn ways to inexpensively drive traffic to my website, so if anyone has suggestions, I`d appreciate hearing them. Terry

Sounds like an interesting book. I particularly like the way you organized the book in "in fragmented, non-sequential visions". I would recommend the following:

1. Add a blog page to your site.
2. Posting short articles or commentaries on why or how you wrote each chapter and mention excerpts in the piece and post them on your site and other military friendly sites. That should draw interest.
3. Arrange for guest appearances, visits, etc. to places like military bases, VA hospitals, VA Centers, etc. Places where you would be welcomed, appreciated and understood to promote your book..
4. Arrange for guest appearances at book stores during military holidays, occasions, events, etc. to promote your book.
5. Offer free signed books to popular military bloggers to give out as prizes. MilBlogger.com is a great place to find military related blogs, military spouse blogs, military family blogs, etc.

Those were just a few that came up. All the best.

Hi all,

I am in the process of retiring from the Air National Guard, and am working for the Army in Afghanistan as a contractor to partially fund an expansion of my business (Scorpion`s Cycles).  In researching possible sources of funding, I came across the SBA`s `Patriot Express Loan Program`.  It is aimed directly at us Vets and family and survivors of vets.  It looks almost too good to be true.  Has anyone here had any experience with this program?

It really is a great program ... very beneficial to Vets and their families. You can receive an uncollaterized loan of up to $25,000 very, very quickly (within days) ... and up to $500,000 with collateral (which takes longer, naturally). www.sba.gov is your best bet for info ... and then contact your regional SBA office. Your state`s Dept. of Veteran Services should also be able to help. Here`s the program web page. You can go from there ... http://www.sba.gov/patriotexpress/index.html. Good luck! ... Boys and Girls I have been in contact with my Congressman this week about a house bill I believe will be beneficial to us all.  Below is the explanation Hon. John Lender gave to me about what it does: (it`s worth the read)

H.R. 2352, introduced by Representative Heath Shuler (D-NC) on May 12, 2009, this bill, among other provisions, directs the Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide grant programs for entrepreneurial training and counseling to veterans` business centers and veteran-owned small businesses.
H.R. 2352 revises the SBA`s Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) program to direct the Administrator to ensure that SCORE develops a plan to increase the proportion of mentors from socially or economically disadvantaged backgrounds, establishes benchmarks for evaluating its performance and the performance of its volunteers, and establishes a mentoring program of one-on-one advice to small businesses from qualified counselors.  Furthermore, this bill authorizes $10 million for FY 2011 and $12 million for FY 2012 in appropriations for the SBA to create a Veterans` Business Center.  This program would provide veterans, as well as their surviving spouses, with entrepreneurial guidance about starting up a small business or maintaining one.  This bill also provides these centers with $75,000 for capital grants that are tailored to service-disabled veterans.  H.R. 2352 passed the House of Representatives on May 20, 2009, by a vote of 406-15

If you agree that this is a good idea, I urge you to support it by contacting your Congressman and suggesting he or she do the same.

It is quite interesting idea, I think that many people here will be glad to communicate about this aspect of business.
