OK, When I first signed on with SUN and posted my profile and later updated my profile with some pictures (see topic "Share your New Profile"), I bragged about my new home in Bend, OR but indicated I was proud of what I have been able to do at my age (recently 60).

It was suggested my Meitzi that I start a new Post about bragging so here it is.  (Meitzi, I hope you don`t mind my using your name? LOLLOL)

    1) Do you have anything to brag about?

    2) Do you think bragging is bad or good?

    3) Is bragging welcome or unwelcome or just tolerated?

I`m sure we would love to hear what you have to say so LETS GET BRAGGING!

I think we all have something to toot our horns about and as long as we celebrate others` successes along with our own, it`s perfectly fine to brag a little because it gives people hope.  As for wether it is good or bad, I suppose it would depend somewhat on why you`re bragging - if it is to give hope then it`s good.  If it`s to make those around you feel puny and small, it`s not so good.

As for my own personal brag, I will say that I was told by one of the organizers at my first bridal show a couple of weeks ago that they never would have known I`d never exhibited before if I hadn`t told them. Since the show, people who`ve seen a picture of my booth (I should post it in my profile, but I have a nice little theme going on in there so I don`t want to mess with it), have said it looks classy, professional and all around - great!  I am still glowing from all the praise. :)

1) Do you have anything to brag about?

Seldom have something to "brag" about.  Often find things appropriate for "tooting my own horn.

2) Do you think bragging is bad or good?

If it`s called "bragging" it comes across as a negative due to the old childhood scolding of parents.  If it`s packaged as "marketing," "promotion," or "PR" it somehow magically - and often very effectively - becomes a good thing.

In her book, BRAG!: The Art of Tooting Your Own Horn Without Blowing It, Peggy Klaus writes:

"Promoting ourselves is something we are not taught to do. Even today, we still tell children `Don`t talk about yourself, people won`t like you.` So ingrained are the myths about self-promotion, so repelled are we by obnoxious braggers, many people simply avoid talking about themselves."

3) Is bragging welcome or unwelcome or just tolerated?

I agree with MeLissa`s statement.  I`m not one to tolerate people who are just all "ME!, ME! ME!" Celebrate your own successes, along with those of others, and the world will "toot!" along with you.

I grew up in a family where "self-promotion" was very welcome.   My dad, mom and sister were/are all PR professionals.

Great Ron, there goes my reputation!  Kidding! Use my name for free now but once I become famous like the Sloan brothers it won`t be free any more!

very proud of you for starting a new topic!!! Now you have one more thing to brag about!!

this is for MeLissa!! You should be proud!!!

this is for Jeff!! Wow!!

Guess it`s my turn now ... ummm let`s see..

1. I was raised to be modest. But in my family, modest means you put yourself down. For an example, if someone says,"You draw so well." the proper reply should be, "No, I can`t draw at all."  For that reason, I don`t brag about my art work...

But, one day my son`s preschool teacher told me that somehow all Disney Princess were mentioned during circle time and so she asked everyone which princess was the most beautiful one, while most kids suggested SnowWhite my son said, "My mommy."  Awwwwwwww......

2. Bragging is fun when you know the person isn`t a snob. It`s annoying when my second aunt brags about how wealthy she is during every family dinner.

3. I have no idea how to answer the third question.  Our office is out of coffee this morning so I can`t really think ... will get back to ya!

LOL, I would never want to hurt your reputation.  Thank you for allowing me to use your name.  I`ll remember not to WHEN you become famous.

LOLLOL,  OK Meitzi and glad to have you here.

I`m going to brag some more...

I sold my 1349sqft, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage and a very, very small almost non-existant back yard, that I bought in 1991 for $135,000, for over $400,000 (Pittsburg, CA) and in 2004 I had a NEW home built that is 3000sqft, 5 bedroom that includes a VERY large Master bedroom with a jacuzzi in the Master bathroom, 3 full baths, Media room, Den (my home office), Formal Dining room, Living and Family rooms with floor to ceiling fireplace in stone, 3 car (Tandem) garage at a cost of $335,000 but with upgrades total cost was $389,000.  And not to mention that here in Oregon there is NO Sales Tax!  LOL, how sweet it is.  Should I be embarrased?  Nope, I`m proud!

So Meitzi, if you want to leave CA I`m sure you`ll benefit.
