I`m a Baby Boomer, but I will be turning fifty in a few days.  I believe the tail end of the Baby Boomer generation still might not be fifty yet.

From Wikipedia - A baby boomer is anyone born between 1946 and 1964 in a country that experienced an unusual spike in birth rates following World War II, a phenomenon commonly known as the baby boom.

(Ignore the hyperlinks - they stayed in when I pasted it!)

Deleted...

Changed my mind... I HATE having my posts either deleted or edited without justifiable cause... or a note of explanation from the utter (unflattering name deleted) that did the dastardly deed.

Gone fishin` back in my old pond.

Bye.

If I could find the membership delete button, I would use it.

Good luck all... write when you get work.

Part of what us boomers need epens on whether we were entrepreneurs in our past lives, corp. workers or not working.  As a former WSj reporter, now speaker/author I am a mixed cat.  i love working with people in their 20s and 30s who are tech-savy, cross-consulting in specific ways, forging alliance to reach my market with their social media expertise, sharing the profits and learning from each other.

In a flattening world, dedicated to "the power of us" those who will flourish  - no matter what their age - are those who can forge alliances with people very different than themselves (in talent, experience, work style etc.) to generate more visibility and value for the niche market they seek to serve.

our rally call may well be as boomers, how to find the fun (and profit) where the sum of us is better than apart.

And StartupNation is uniquely positioned to support that opportunity. The founders of responsive, social media-oriented... and they seem clike inventive and fun folks.

I`m 56 and have been in the search for a good business idea. Sounds easy, right? No way I`m 16 months into my search, have looked into more than 26 buisnesses including one franchise. I hate the franchise concept. Not for me, at least as a buyer.

I have offered to come up with the money (I`m not Angel Investor). Number one condition is I work were I put my money, full time. No one has come up to me and asked me to sign a NDA to see if I`m willing to do the business with them.

So I think this idea of Start Up Nation of having baby boomers as main characters is great and I suggest it should be used as a link between people with "the idea" and people who have the money and will to put ALL their time to work in whatever that idea/ project may be.

For the time being I was offered an opportunity in Mexico were I`ll be heading in 4 weeks.

Good idea from Start Up nation!!!!!

I am a Boomer , too... 7 months into a Start-up of The first non-franchised dinner prep store on Long Island
to be certified by the Suffolk County Health Dept....
It is a unique challenge to be a boomer doing this as the hours are long and the work stressful. I sometimes think that i cannot keep up but the ideas instilled in us of innovation, rebellion, and that we can change the world are what keeps me going.  If you build it, and it has value.... they will come......(heard on Oprah) and Field of Dreams....

I recently discovered your site by accident and  just love it.  By the way, I am 64, work part-time and have started a gift home-based business.  Our specialty - custom, handmade gift card holders.  Many are one-of-a-kind.  I love the creative side but not the marketing.  It`s so time consuming.  When I approach buyers, I am competing with Hallmark.  Help!

I`m a boomer who has been self employed since she was 10 years old. I`ve worked from home doing dressmaking, clothing design, product design and other artistic persuits. Now that the children are grown, I am devoting full energy to my business. Moving into my late fifties, I am more focused on having a business and being in business.  Its like this, before I was working to supplement my husband`s income, and keep the family afloat---now I work for three things, pleasure, principle and profits.  Pleasure, because I enjoy making unique products tht are useful and need by society. I also have a cap on the amount and rate of production (based on sales/interest) by my marketing and promotion procedures. Principle is in place because I don`t want to keep up with the Jone`s or have them running after me. I don`t have much to weight me down and I`m not trying to leave the most stuff behind when I pass on to my great reward. Profits are needed in their proper perspective so that I can spread the wealth around---take my dollars and support the local grocer, other home-based businesses and of course government in all its layers. As a boomer I`ve learned over the years to live simply and joyously--where I am at.
