I`m constantly amazed at how totally different blacks and whites view the same issues, as it pertains to race and O.J. Simpson. Check out this latest poll:

Just for the record, I believe O.J killed Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson

On one question the two races agreed wholeheartedly: Nearly nine in 10 of each said they are tired of hearing about Simpson.

Amen to that!

Yeah, he does seem to keep himself in the news... unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons.

Erin, you`re being kind. I think he`s much worse than that. I can`t even begin to tell you how many fights I`ve gotten into with my relatives, because of this scum bucket. Even though I wasn`t there, I know he`s a double murderer. I know he did it. All of my relatives think the bloody glove was planted by Mark Furman. Yeah, right.

I think it’s a disgrace that the media focuses on people like O. J. Simpson. There are so many vital contributions being made by Black people, but people like O. J. get the spotlight.

Most people for instance, don’t know that a Black doctor was primarily responsible for the development of the science of blood transfusions. He later died of injuries from a vehicle accident because he was denied a blood transfusion at a Whites only hospital. Neither event received any news media coverage even to this day.

Wow...Patrick, nice pass. I`ll take it from here. The whole purpose of this thread was to get some interesting dialogue started about how differently blacks and white view the same issue as it relates to race. I didn`t really want to turn this topic into a black history lesson, but since Patrick opened the door, I`m going to elaborate on what he said.

It`s true. Most people don`t know about the many outstanding and life-changing contributions that black Americans have made to this great country of ours, as well as the world.

I started studying black history when I was in high school and was shocked to discover that the history books were filled with outright lies and deceptions about the contributions of blacks in America.

For example, in 1893, the first successful open-heart surgery was performed by a black doctor. Dr. Daniel Hale Williams completed the operation on a young man named James Cornish. He had been rushed to Provident Hospital in Chicago with a stab wound.

And many American staples and luxuries that we take for granted today were also invented by black Americans. For example:

Garrett A. Morgan invented the traffic light. Morgan was one of the first to apply for and acquire a U.S. patent for a traffic signal. The patent was granted on November 20, 1923. Morgan later had the technology patented in Great Britain and Canada.

Sarah Boone, a Black woman, invented the ironing  board. Walter Sammons invented the comb. Lydia O. Newman, a Black female invented the brush. LIoyd P. Ray invented the dustpan. Thomas W. Stewart invented the mop.

George T. Samon invented the clothes dryer. John Love invented the pencil sharpener. William Purvis invented the fountain pen. Lee Burridge invented the type writer, and W. A. Lavette invented the printing press.

The lawnmower was invented by John Burr. Robert Spikes invented the automatic gear shift for automobiles and Joseph Gammel invented the supercharge system for internal combustion engines.

John Standard invented the refrigerator. Alive Parker, a Black female, invented the heating furnace.  Frederick Jones  invented the air conditioner.

The electric trolley was invented by Elbert T. Robinson. Alexander Miles invented the elevator. Phillip Downing invented the letter drop mailbox and William Barry invented the postmarking and canceling machine.

Lewis Howard Latimer invented the filament within the light bulb. Charles Drew, a Black scientist found a way to preserve and store blood, which led to his starting the world`s first blood bank.

There are probably  a thousand other inventions that black people are responsible for - far too many to mention here. But if anyone is interested in learning more about the contributions of black Americans, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of  1001 Things Everyone Should Know About African American History by Jeffrey C. Stewart. It`s a real eye-opener.
