So I've been doing internet marketing for close to 2 years now and I've learned so many different techniques and systems to use to drive traffic.

 

My best sources of traffic have been Facebook Ads  [paid] and my Facebook Fan page [organic/viral].

I have also had a lot of success with social bookmarking websites like reddit.com where I can actually get into a conversation.

 

I don't get clicks with twitter and it feels like I'm wasting my time when I'm on it but most people I know claim that it's their biggest source.

What are your best sources of traffic?  

Is there something else I should be focusing on?

Yes SEO is great but very up and down.  Honestly, in my over 16+ years of marketing online, I have seen one thing and one thing only which produces results far above anything else.  It is the basic system of proper link building.  This is finding relevant websites which care nothing about SEO and asking them straight out for a link.  

Doing this brings me good SEO results and a good amount of traffic.  Sure, it takes time to get results sometimes, but in the end it is worth it because you can sleep at night knowing your traffic is mostly coming from links you built.  SEO is a benefit of all the links you build when you look at it this way.

When I build links I forget all about search engines and focus on building good quality links which are relevant and will bring traffic.

SEO is definitely the best way to create long-term traffic -- if it's done correctly. But it won't happen overnight and it definitely takes lots of hardwork.

Using PPC (pay-per-click) advertising is a quick way to gain results, but it's obviously going to cost money. And just like SEO, it will take some work to run test campaigns and optimize your PPC ads to be the most effective.
