I jump headfirst into this site.... and I slowwwwwwwwwwwww down and realize this is an one of kind website with MBA material and wise ones

But to truly appericate the purpose of Startupnation website.. I Strongly urge yall to get a copy of the Sloan`s brothers book. Jeff and Rich Sloan are very straightforward in their book.

Like I said in another thread, I was like oh great another how to book. BAD BAD BAD BAD MISTAKE on my part.

It will be Nov 1 2006 tomorrow. This book has been in print since June 2005.

Can you imagine where you could have been now if you have pick up the book right away?

Shoot you could have done YouTube.com!

March 2000 the NASDAQ was trading at 5,000 and if I am correct it is fluttering around the 11,000 mark.

Now I see the importance of doing a life plan before the business plan.

You got to read this site and get the book. I see the book is like a companion guide to the site but it is very in-depth.

I am not going to front, this is the FIRST time that I am actually writing in a book. I am writing notes and ideas on each pages and I am just understanding the concept of a LIFE PLAN.

One thing I got to give respect about Jeff and Rich, is they have strong level of preservance. And really believe in the battery buddy. Three years till they got the funding? Wow that is PERSERVANCE! Faith in thy product.

Another thing I learn while I was reading chaper 2, is that having a business isn`t about money. But it is a lifestyle!

I could go on and on. But I am going to say.. THANK YOU JEFF AND RICH for doing this site and writing the best damn business book! When I become a millionaire/billionaire, just let me know what is your favorite charity and I will cut the charity a check.

So if you are newbie to this site... PLEASE DO YOURSELF and the other a favor.. GET THE book!

I found this site before I knew about the book.  Reading the book pulls it all together.  Buy it, read it and build!

The reason I decided there should be a philosophy of Individualism is that I`ve yet to see a philosophy that rests primarily on a definition and valuation of Quality of Life.

I got interested back when I first saw that the abortion and euthanasia national debates are the same thing, just different aspects. In abortion we`re asking when does a life begin, but also how does one life affect the quality of another person`s life.

In the euthanasia debate, and the "right to die," we`re also determining what does it mean to have a quality of life.

None of these arguments have been laid out, and now the discussion is either so political or so emotional it`s getting totally confused. But the entire concept of self-run business, passion for an idea, the creative desire to see if an idea not only works but other people want to use it, all revolve around quality of life.

Yes, you should have at least some "sense" of what you believe life is about before starting a business. Everyone talks about the hours, the sacrifices, the panic, the stress, and so forth. But any entrepreneur also talks about the Satisfaction of getting it done. This site is focused on that satisfaction, not primarily filled with dire warnings about how many businesses fail, what problems you`ll encounter, and other disasters.

People start a business because they believe that life means something. We`re "here" (alive on the planet) for some reason. It doesn`t matter what`s the deep reason, but that life is about more than basic survival. To get a business off the ground means nurturing it so that the business---the "it"---survives. Most entrepreneurs almost totally identify with that business, taking it as their proxy "self," or their "baby."

When do we let an ailing child go? When do we abort an idea before it`s given the chance to live? What constitutes the survival of a business, versus an exuberant, joyful, living and dynamic business? All these questions are exactly the same as with a living being, except that being one-step removed, we often can think a bit more objectively about the answers.

Those answers apply not only to the life of a business, but the owner`s life directly. And so without a life plan---a style of living---it`s doubly hard to start a business.
