I found this site today. Its a site that contains web directories that you can add your site to.  I found a few others too like http://freewebsubmission.com/ and http://www.isedn.org/

Is this a recipe for search engine disaster?  It seems so easy (time consuming, but easy) that its sounds too good to be true.  The last thing I need is to be penalized by the Google Police.

Barose,
Last weekend I learned the biggest lesson in life... DO not submit to those web sites, Spammers are getting smarter and using those website submission tools to legally opt you in, into their spam mailing lists.
The last I remember was submitting a form, and before I knew, I was bombarded with thousand and thousands of SPAM. So much of it, I had to end the life span of one of my most used email addresses. Now I`m trying to recover all my critical email and subscriptions since I got rid of that email address.
Another thing. Spamhaus blocked my IP, crippling my business for about 3 days...

There are SEO friendly directories which are fine to submit your site.

Vilesilencer is a good resource for SEO directories. Although I have not been on his site for a while... looks like it might be down.

The key is not to just submit to any and all directories ... that isn`t beneficial .... submit to the ones that are relevant to your site and it`s topic.

Hello,

No those types of websites are no good for your website. They could hurt your site in the form of getting banned from such places as Google or Yahoo, etc. Most of the time they just want your information to sale (hence looking at tons of spam traffic). For starters the search engines are going to find your website when they send out spiders... However if it makes you feel better head to the three major players (Google, Yahoo, MSN) and submit your website yourself as it only takes a few seconds.
Dealing with sites like you have listed is only going to hurt you in the long run...As they are much like "The Search Engine Submission Service Scammers".

Best of luck

Thanks for the advice. I will stay away from them. It sounds too good to be true and a recipe for disaster to boot. My site is already submitted to search engines.  I just need to generate traffic in other ways (seo, continue blogging, etc)

Besides submitting directly to search engines, just getting a couple of inbound links will get them to your site .... like putting links in your signature .... sometimes it`s faster than a direct submission.
