I have no doubt in my mind as I write this article that most people often struggle with this question. Like you, I have always thought about this interesting topic of “job verses entrepreneurship”. I came up with interesting findings that I deem necessary to share with you today.

Entrepreneurship can be described as producing a new or modified innovative idea that can be developed into a successful business. The ability to think is one of the unique characteristics that elevate human beings above other creatures. Therefore, we are all capable of thinking and able to produce innovative business ideas. A job is basically a defined task or set of tasks that a person performs for a reward or benefits. The actions of entrepreneurs lead to job creations.

Most job seekers or workers can also be successful entrepreneurs. However, it comes down to how a person is motivated and certain decisions that an individual should make. Do you enjoy being a leader or a team player? Do you prefer to be the driver or a passenger? Are you a risk taker and yearn for freedom or you prefer job security? Do you like to be in control of your own destiny or let events decide where you end up? Whatever your answers are to these questions, that will give you a clear choice whether you want to work for somebody or you want to create jobs for others.

The relationship between a job seeker and an entrepreneur is mutual and symbiotic. They are complementary and interdependent on each other. Entrepreneurs create jobs with the hope of employing people to perform the job functions. Job seekers hope and count of entrepreneurs to create the jobs for them to work.

To carry the point home, it is entirely a personal preference whether you choose to work for somebody or you decide to create jobs for others. One thing you should know is that your services are vital to creating economic equilibrium in the business society.

As a result of the above, I wish to acknowledge and commend Fresh Business Minds. They have created a single platform and important resources to assist young business minded people and students. I`ve been reading up on economics, thinking about the problems we face in today`s economy. We`ve heard a lot about "leadership" and "team player," but I suspect they`re empty terms that really don`t apply much to the underlying problems. However, motivation certainly is key to the overall concept of an economy.

Motivation, I think can split between "making money" versus "selling something." The reason for the split is productivity---what does one person produce that actually can be bought and sold in the open market.

The US (and much of the rest of the First World) has been losing productivity for a long time. I used to think productivity meant how much work am I getting done. I now understand that it means what new "things" am I producing; what do I do that someone can buy; what can I sell.

When someone goes out to get a job, they hope to make money or they hope to "do something." Although a line worker on an assembly line isn`t necessarily creating the factory, they`re taking part in actually building a real product. But what about a financial adviser, hedge-fund operator, investment banker, stock broker?

Depending on their motives, they`re either promoting capitalism and helping to create new business, or they`re just in it for the money. That would be like the mergers and acquisitions craze of the 80s.

And what about people who re-sell commodity items, or cheap knock-offs of other products? Are they producing something or only increasing the balance-of-trade curves? Is a distribution channel actually productive? That refers to the issues of "in-store" sales versus "new store openings."

I think what`s going to have to change for us to get out of the tough economy has more to do with the question, "What can I produce?" Not so much do we want to be leaders or team players. And certainly not, "How much money can I get?"

We should salute entrepreneurs who create employment as they are the pillars of the future.
