Apple has announced that they will be officially supporting Windows on their new Intel-based Macs.
What kind of businesses do you think will pop up as a result of this revelation?
I have one...do you?
Apple and Microsoft have had an on again off again relationship for a
number of years. I don` think Apple offering to support Windows
is going to amount to much. Don`t get me wrong I am happy to see
it happen, I am a Mac guy from way back but sometimes I need
Windows. I am hoping to set up a computer with the ability to
interchange between the two OSs.
But for the most part I don`t think this is going to amount to much, or
if anything it is going to hurt Apple. First of all while Apple`s
hardware is top notch it also has the price tag to go along with
it. PowerBooks are great machines but I can get a HP laptop for a
much better price and still have a very good machine. If Apple
supports Windows it isn`t a leap that you will also be able to load OS
X onto PCs. Only the diehard Mac fans are going to pay for the
Apple hardware. Anyone remember the Mac Clones from about 10
years ago, that didn`t last long did it? Apple shut them down
when they found out that all people really want is the OS. OS X
is cheap compared to Windows and I can`t imagine that Apple`s bottom
line is going to do well just peddling their software.
I love Apple, I wish I would have loaded up on stock 7 years ago when
my friends were telling me what a good deal it was. Apple is
always the first company with the hot product; remember the Newton PDA
or Quicktake camera? Perhaps Apple has finally figured out that
it is pigheaded to only market to Mac users. iPod can be used
with windows and look at success. I wish Apple a long life.
I will continue to use their products (as long as they change the
PowerBooks cases back to plastic and loose this Aluminum crap.)
for as long as I am hammering keys, but they are an impulsive company
and sometimes that comes back to bite you in the butt.
I think there
will be a need for an independent tech support center that can answer
questions about both Mac and MS...at the moment, it doesn`t seem as if
Apple has tech support plans for MS.
