Nicole,
From my experience and observations, I don't think you (or anyone) can "convince" someone to invest in your company. Furthermore, if you could and did- it would likely turn out to be a nightmare. What you can do is show them that you (and your team) are prepared, passionate, committed and capable of applying their capital in a way that will achieve results and increase the value of their investment.
It's a common belief that investors make their decisions based upon the facts and potential return. While it is true that Venture Capital firms need to invest in situations that offer the possibility of big returns, the mere presence of such a potential doesn't begin to assure one of an investment from them.
In an early stage business, it is highly likely (about 90%) that the capital will come from your (or your teams) extended network and from those that resonate with the problem you are going to solve.
If you would like to discuss your specific situation, feel free to drop me a PM or contact me directly.
