Living in a small town with the majority being Seniors, I was thinking about opening up a senior transportation service where I would take them to a casino or shopping or to get their hair done.

I have a car that does well on Gas my only two problems is that I am 18 and I am curious what would happen if I got into some kind of accident (I do have insurance). But is that insurance going be Ok for doing that type of thing?

Also another concern is that their is a community bus kind of thing that a few people use and I was wondering if anyone thinks that would be a problem. A benefit of going through me would be it is more on a personal level and that sort of thing.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

if you get through slowcookermate`s suggestions and all looks well, i would ask yourself the question...are you going to be satisfied with $X per week/month?  if you are doing this on a part time basis for extra cash it might not be a bad idea.  however, if you are thinking about developing this into a businss (seeing as you have an existing competitor) ask yourself what your competitve advantage is. if it is the fact that you are providing a more personal service, then your income potential appears limited to the hours/trips you put in. in other words, have you thought about scaleability? how can you increase profits/service levels w/o having to increase your time/involvement in the business? (working more efficiently).  just some things to consider...

You may need a taxi license, so check into that as well. Your insurance agent may be able to give you other suggestions. Another problem is accessibility, for things like walkers, wheelchairs, and so forth.
