Hi,

I am sure everyone here is familiar with a loan broker.  What I am wondering is if there is a similiar service like that but that matches up angel investors with companies in search of capital.  Even better would be a website that is the complete opposite of the usual angel investor website. One where the angel lists what they have and are looking for, instead of the business listing what they want. Is anyone aware of anything like that? I have spent what seems like days on Google searching but I have not found what I am after.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Cole

Cole,

I`m not aware of any site like your wish. The primary challenge is tht most angels really don`t want to put their contact information out to the public - because they get inundated with messages and "offers".

Robert,

Thanks for the reply. You bring up a great point that I had not thought about. I can just imagine the amount of email that an angel would get if they posted their information. I guess this is why it would be great to find an in between person such as a broker.

Thanks

Cole,

Very true. For that reason there are a bunch of folks out there who say they can connect you up with angels.

However, in our experience with early stage companies- the founder (and team) are the ones who must "carry the ball" across the goal to get the funding. So in essence, the "broker" is connecting you to possible angels. Generally, the fees are substantial - especially for just an introduction.

Robert,

Thanks for the insight. I got more information from what you told me than all the time I spent searching on Google and trying to understand the whole process. Also I would agree with you in that in the end it comes down to the business owners being the ones who make or break the deal.

Thanks again for your input

Cole,

Good question. I am also seeking Angel Funding and came across an Angel / VC matching site called Fundingpost. They charge a small fee to entrepreneurs to post an executive summary. Registered Investors contact the entrepreneurs directly if they are interested.

I would appreciate feedback if anybody is familiar with them or has used them. My concern is that after attending several VC networking events, speakers have cautioned against broadcasting business plans. Could using Fundingpost hurt me?

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrew,

I am aware of Fundingpost (as well as several others like it). I don`t have any direct experience with them.

However, you bring up a good question about "broadcasting" your business plan. When seeking capital a business plan is usually an essential tool. However, don’t expect the plan to do all the work for you. In early-stage companies, it is you (the entrepreneur) and your team that are key to securing the capital.

We recommend that the distribution of your business plan be limited and controlled (by keeping a list of those who receive it) – because the very nature of a “good” plan will contain information that you don’t want to give to the whole world.

We have also seen instances where an improperly written plan has been construed as an offering document – you don’t want that!

So, if you post on a match making site or any other place – remember the goal is to generate enough interest to start a dialog.
