Hi all, I`m new here and haven`t had a chance to read everything, but was hoping for some feedback.  I`m wondering if what we`re doing is considered "green".  I was looking for some sort of certifying agency when we first started but had a very difficult time finding anything that applied.  My husband handcrafts one-of-a-kind toy barns using 100% reclaimed barn wood.  Our web site is www.streamsidefarm.com.  Would love any constructive criticisms or helpful advice.  Thanks!!

Hello,

I`m not an expert but I would say yes.  Reusing reclaimed barn wood would be beneificial to the environment and using natural materials is also beneficial as they can be renewed.

I wonder if being green is your primary sales message, or even who you`d approach for this certification ( LEED ? your barns are brilliant but not really a building--oh, check your "barns.php" page`s text box; masked by images).
If you want to market as green, I`d go right to someone like  TreeHugger.com and see what they think; plus, there are some "toy people" here who can hook you up with the associations and channels for Made in America and all that jazz.
Your husbands work is wonderful; I`d call it art and you might consider sites like
Repurposed 4 You  and www.etsy.com regardless of being "green".

Thanks for the kind words re: his work.  Where are the "toy people" here?  I feel a bit like I did the first time I got on the internet.  There`s SO much information here, information overload a little.  I learn a little every day.

Also, I checked the barns page on IE, firefox and safari and had no problems.  I`ll let my son know about it, though, as he is the web guy around here.  (That`s the real reason I won`t let him go away to college...can`t afford tech support when he leaves.)  I`ve heard of etsy, but not the other.  I`ll check that out.

I looked at your web site.  What a great idea.  I use boxes a lot when I`m helping people declutter and get organized and that would be SO handy.  I`ll have to keep that in mind when I need something again.

You can find "toy people" here in the marketplace (consider adding your barns) Mary Kay with Kubit2Me jumps to mind.

I took a quick screen scrape of what I was seeing and posted on my site (links to .jpg; I`ll nuke in a couple days, but it`s the fastest way and doesn`t show on my site; not a good practice) ... my site is horrible but it works and I like when someone lets me know if something isn`t working or up and I can fix so I was just doing that for you here (there`s a better spot on SuN for this kind of thing).

Thanks.  He`s fixing it.  I do like to know when things aren`t working.  We thought we had it covered.  We`ve had the site up for several months.  It feels like one of those moments when you find out you have lipstick on your teeth and why didn`t someone tell you earlier.

No worries.  I too like to know when I`m "off" (I might not jump right on something, but it`s nice to know someone is paying attention).
I`ve never tossed our site into the "please critique my site" grinder here, but it might be a task for you as there are significant people here who will take you at your word and give you honest and direct feedback on what does and doesn`t work for them ... not that I think you need it, but I didn`t look at your site more than to see if I could help answer your question on green.
