My husband and I are looking to start an import business from the Philippines but not sure where to start. My brother in the philippines owns a very successful business in the Philippines and I want to import all his products here in the US. I live in California. What do we need as an establishment over here to receive shipments. His products are food items but has long shelf life. Please advise. I have no idea where to start. Thank you.

I don`t really know this field, but I`m guessing you`re going to need some sort of import-export license. Just doing a basic search on Google, I came up with this page:
http://www.traderfax.com/Website%20Draft/FAQ.html

It`s a FAQ page, but the way I view it, if you don`t understand even the questions, then that`s where you`d start---with education about those questions, the terms, and what they`re talking about.
