I have been in the writing business for over ten years.  During this time, I have done it all - from working with large publishers to mentoring upcoming writers.  Now, I want to develop a web based program where new writers can learn how to be a professional writer.  I have already started on an ebook over the subject and have the ideas ready for either an online course or an online training program.  I have checked into several online colleges and degree programs, but since I don`t have a teaching certificate, they won`t talk to me.  So - I would like some advice on finding a partner who can help with the design and a bit of the investment areas.  I can do all the writing and course design, but I`m not too savvy on the details of web design and other areas that it would take to get this project off the ground.  Any ideas or nudges in the right direction would be sweet.

Hi,

The first thing I would recommend is that you create a professional website which accentuates all of your skills and writing credits. This is your calling card to potential business partners. When you design your website, make sure that it is easy to navigate and that you do not have any spelling or grammatical errors on it. After all, you are selling your skills as a writer.

The next thing I would recommend is creating a business plan, a marketing plan, and a projected budget. Potential partners will want to see everything spelled out in writing.

You need to be very clear as to what will be expected from your partner and what your partner can expect from you. You also need to be clear about how much of an investment you are looking for and what your investor can expect as a return on that investment.

I hope this helps.

Hi mdweems,

I`m not a certified teacher.  But, I developed a three day seminar for a community college.  I then met with the college’s director of Adult Continuing Education.  She offered to sponsor the seminar as a non-credit adult education certification program.  This might be a route you want to try.
