Hello,


I currently have a product that I would like to market and sell.  I would like to run my initial business plan with the people with actually selling experience, which is:

I have this product that I want to initially targeted for Asian (Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans and Indians) - main reason is I think they will use it the most.  My plan is to market this product with a nice marketing/packing service company and selling it to local small ethic grocery stores.  This way I'm testing my product in the market.

So this initial plan really involves starting my business by selling the product to retailers and establish a distribution system. What are your thoughts for my initial business plan?

Ray,

That seems like good beta testing (coming from software background) which will give an idea how the product accepted by the soceity. It will give you idea whether the product needs improvement or accepted as it and can be manufactured more to increase the revenue.

I would suggest you to try out in few retail stores around your area and see the reception and go from there.

Well it seems appropriate because I'm a IT consultant, very familiar with the SDLC and thats why I'm asking because I hope its coming from a logical business standpoint (as opposed to my profession influenced view).  That blows my mind that you could pick up that software vibe from my post.

Thanks for your input, will try selling to bigger retail stores but only thing its not going to be much accepted with general Americans -Never hurts to try selling though - willing to sell my butt off.

Being a Indian myself, I am interested to know about the product if you are willing to share it. ALso are you planning to setup a website and try internet route as well. Thats time less consuming except you need to spend money to set it up.

Yeah Vijai, after I know that there is a demand for my product.  I would then go into my second phase of my business plan.  I plan on ordering much larger quantity and setting up a registered business entity.  Most likely I would force my business to expands outside of Dallas, I would then use UPS to deliver my product.  From there I would setup a website where the customers can order the product online if they wanted too.  Or they could also order over the phone.

From there, I have several different methods I want to try.  But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself (I keep thinking of step 4 and 10 when I haven't even done step 2 :)

If there is a demand for it in Dallas, most likely I'll be traveling up to Houston.  If so, I wouldn't mind showing you the product.  And if you wanted to join me that would be fantastic.

Sounds like you have a lot of work to do and your idea is in the very early planning stages. Id concentrate on getting the product ideas worked out and finalized...
