I`d like to be able to accept credit cards but currently do not want to pay the $50-$75 per month I think it will cost. I don`t care about the % of transaction fee or small transaction fee, I just don`t want the other costs. Any suggestions on the way to go to avoid minimums etc? Is Pay Pal virtual terminal a possibility? (this would be more for telephone/face to face sales then web sales) Thank you for any insight!

Pay the monthly charge and get on with building a successful business.
You do not grow a successful business by cutting costs.
I have been paid for significant contracts by credit card - and you will too.
It`s a necessary "investment" in your business and should never be considered a cost except when filing your tax return.

I agree with Ric.
Do you use Quick Books for your accounting?  They have a program where you can except credit cards and it just integrates into the program.  It`s really not too expensive.

We actually use Charge.com, and pay about $15 a month + 2 - 3 % (depending on card, Amex is 3%) per transaction.

We use a virtual terminal, and never see the card, so we are classified as "phone sales".

Yes, go with CC, but don`t go near anyone charging you $50 or more per month.  We have tried several vendors for this and have been happiest with both Costco (the discount you get makes up for a membership fee even if you aren`t a member) and Quickbooks Merchant Services.  Currently we have 5 different merchant accounts, all with Quickbooks and their service has been great.  If you ever have reason to have more than one account, ask them for a discount - we`re down to $9.95 per month for most of them.

Costco is very cost effective.  Paypal or Google Checkout, they`re no where near the $50 a month.

I just signed on with Charge.com at $15 a month.  I agree that $50 or more is insane.  I would never pay more than $25.00.  Without a merchant account you are really limiting yourself.

Hey,
I am surprised only ne guy here suggested Google Checkout/Paypal. Bth have excellent integration options and multiple options of payment; both % sale price , and monthly. besides both are safe and have trust and credibility already established in the market.

So untill you grwo up to open a merchant account go for one of them.

Can anybody tell me how the process accepting such credit card payments works please. I am new to the business world and shopping for a creditc ard machine now that i hope wont cost me the heavens. The additional charge for using card - is that borne by the company or can that be added to the customer bill? Also is the money directly credited to the business bank account or is it a monthly process of tallying up and depositing? Please advise!
