To put it simply, they`re making new languages and "platforms" to make new web applications that do more and more than basic HTML.  One example, is Gmail, whose features wouldn`t be possible without the new stuff like AJAX.  The good thing is that these advances let you do more and more in business.  The bad thing is that the arms race often pressures people to make unnecessary upgrades and choose solutions they don`t need.

"People make unnecessary upgrades, and choose solutions they don`t need" First of all if it was only an upgrade, that means they already had their solution..
I think what you are trying to say is, people make wrong descisions when trying to improve their current system. My advise is, if the system you have in place has been working for you, for the last 3 years... Why make a drastic change to the unknown. After alll just because it`s a newer language doesn`t make it the top of the food chain... Remember new technologies bring new headaches...

What used to be "Plug and Play" is now "Plug and Pray" New doesn`t mean better... Stick to your current system until the newer technology has been proven to work and all bugs have been addressed...and corrected.

As far as TJG`s Shopping cart, You have a cgi cart.. if you want to learn alittle bit more about the cgi and pearl technology you should goto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_software

and update yourself on these topics.. after all that is what you are running your shopping cart in.
Example: You are into trucks right? Wouldn`t it be a good idea to look under the hood if you are purchasing it? Same with your Shopping cart.. Before you commit... read a little about the technology behind it... makes it easier to understand and perhaps to understand what everyone is talking about..
SMILE...

Gee, that`s where you are mistaken. Remember, I`m a Hare (referring to a different thread) I could care less how something works. I just want it to work!!

Some folks that own a Farrari could care less how the mechanics make it go fast ... thats me. They just want it to go fast, real fast.

Other folks get a charge out of understanding and working on the engine ... thats you.

Neither person is better than the other, more intelligent, or more focused. They just simply simply ... are.

It takes the Hares, the Owls, the Turtles, and the Squirrels to make up a successful organization.

However, your assumption that I`m into trucks is way off ... I`m into success, wealth, financial independance and having the BEST on-line store, in the trucking industry.

(Isn`t that why each of us is here?)

It reminds me of the saying ... "Folks don`t care how much you know ... till they know how much you care ... about them."

Have a great night.

TJG... No offense.. No matter how you want to cover success. You are into trucks. that is your niche market. So don`t take it as an offense.. Just like you told me previously over the phone "You know the difference between a nerd and a geek?" Same to you... I didn`t take it as an offense. Just like a Janitor.. who would know about mops better than a janitor... Who would know more about trucks? A truck owner.. Who would know more about web development? A web developer.... AM I RIGHT??? So if you want to coat the work truck with success Its fine with me... But remember... It doesn`t matter if you shave a monkey and you put him in a tuxedo... He`s still a monkey.... Geee... I din`t think you where going to Over react.
