I have an idea for a business but I have no idea how to get started.  I am a training and development professional and have recently learned how to make leadership development work really well inside of corporate organizations (reduce turnover, increase productivity, achieve strategic organizational goals, etc.).  I think that I can help other companies do the same things that we have and are doing in ours but I have no idea how to get started.  I know that there is a great need for this service but again have no idea what to do next.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Have you tried setting up local seminars with your platform? Do you have material created a workshop or two? If you let us know what you have or what you would like to have to offer that would help..depending on it being seminar like, training for corporate world, workshops, book, ebook, elearning etc.

I think the overall unique benefits offered by Startup Nation are the many different "steps" provided in starting a business. Of those, the first would be the Sloan brothers` book, and the 10 Steps to Open for Business.

You`ll want to at least begin there, as it gives an overview of what`s involved in starting your own business.

Another thing to consider is if you`re starting a traditional product-based business, or are you going into consulting? In your case, it might be a strong option to open a consulting business and contract with other companies. You could perhaps use your current company as your first client, as many consultants do.

But above all, you begin with a plan---a written sketch or detailed document that outlines what you *intend* to do in the next segment of your life, why you`d like to do it, and how you propose to go about it.

To that end, what you`re looking for right now could be restated as asking for help on how to create a Business Plan. And for that, you can do a search of the SuN forums, as there`s been a lot of discussion on that process. :-)
