Yes, actually closer to 34 years in the field! How time flies when you are having FUN! I have worked with some fascinating people in the past including the Original Marlboro Man, ultra marathoner Stan Cottrell, Statue of Liberty official photographer and most recently Nobel nominated Robert Taylor with his hot new book Paradidgm.

I will becoming out with my new ebook in March 2007 entitled Public REALations from the Heart.

I am here if you need any help from this seasoned veteran!

Hey there, Hugh :-) Welcome to Startup Nation (SuN)

It`d be great to see you get involved with some of the Web site critiques. You`ll see the requests posted, and they have their own category in the forums. My question is whether or not a Web site is a public relations tool, and/or a marketing tool.

Of course a site can be a bit of both, but it seems so many sites aren`t anything other than a vague flyer for some sort of merchandise. Do you think public relations is connected with Web sites? How does PR differ from Customer Service? How would a no-budget startup benfit from Public Relations?

Hi, Kathy! Thanks and please let me know if I can help in any way especially if you have a Social Entrepreneurship project like our http://www.7thaven.org where we have pledged to build 7,000,000 homes in 7 years. This is where my Public REALations heart is now!

FINALLY getting use to how this works:)!

Craig, without a doubt my previous life as a Managing Editor for Post Newsweek TV would have been one easier job if there had been web sites in the late 60s. Yes, I go back that far! Today if you want PR then you better have web site where the reporters can download your press releases and even if it fits the bill a podcast or videocast.

I have also 25 years in video production and I`m sure that if your site does not have video you are going to be dead in the water!

Funny you should mention about creating PR with a no budget situation. I use to teach for the Learning Annex in Atlanta and my class was PR on Little or No Budget. My class was packed. Why? Because this is one area of marketing that you still don`t have to have BIG bucks to market your product or service. And today it`s even easier with the access to so many PR based web sites.

GREAT questions and I hope this answers some of them! Keep them coming folks!

Hi Hugh,

I can see why that class was packed. I am learning the in`s and out`s of PR at this point. I have two lines of business actually going and I am getting the word out their about both of them.

I have no Social Entrepreneurship project going on. We are bootstrapping the business at this point.

Hi Hugh,

It`s great that you have joined the SUN community!  Your expert advice on how to create PR on a shoestring budget or even with no budget at all is just what I need!  Right now, I`m just stumped at the marketing part and need all the help I can get to jumpstart my online business.

Lately, I haven`t been getting any traffic to my 4 month old site. I`m sad to admit that I have no marketing or promoting skills.  Even though I have been reading all the great tips about marketing and creating a press release from SUN, it can be quite overwhelming for me at times since I`m not a professional writer and my budget is very limited. But I want to continue helping children with my product so I`m not giving up!

So it`s great that you`re here to help! Anytime you want to critique my product or just give me pointers, just send me a private email.

Thanks!

Jeannie

Hi, Jeannie! Hey if your product helps kids then I`m all ears! I`m so new to forums I have not a clue how to send a private email. However it might help every one if we worked on your project with the others. Either way I`m here for you.

I was mentored by the best. He was the former VP of 20th Century Fox and even helped Hugh Hefner start Playboy. I met him when I was a student at Florida State and it was his encouragement and all the cool fun that he had that led to me pursuing a Masters in Public Relations.

I will be turning to him as we launch Project 7th Haven - http://www.7thaven.org along with some of his Hollywood buddies like Robert Redford and Barbara Streisand.

The secret to good PR is developing GREAT contacts and networking! That is one of the main areas that I discuss in my new forth coming ebook Public REALations from the Heart.
