My current businesses' site resides at www.performance-clean.com. I just purchased www.carpetcleanersma.com for SEO purposes.

If I want the new url to index, do I park the new url so it points to my site's current directory. Then redirct my old url to the new one?

I don't think it is at all necessary to do such redirection to just get it indexed. Instead I suggest to do some backlink creation with Off-page optimization techniques. It will helps your domain to get crawled and Indexed.
