Hello fellow entrepreneurs,

I am an 18 small business owner and I have just recently launched my online business. I am focusing on internet marketing and It is starting to get very large. The larger the business gets, the less time i have to work on schoolwork.

I'm currently a senior in High School and I am planning on going to college next year. I was wondering if there was a way that i could pack all of my core classes into the morning of my schedule and then leave for the 2nd half of the day to work from home.

I have 3 free periods at school that are a waste of my time because I am unable to work on my business at school.

I am very unaware as to any assistance to budding entrepreneurs to leave school early during the day to work on their business. I do know that there is a program at school for students who are interested in the healthcare field that allows them to go to local hospital for the morning to get acquainted with the environment.

This is not very different to what I'm doing, except that I am running my business by myself.

Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated

Thank you.

Congratulations on your entrepreneurship!

Check out K-12 or other "cyber" schools. Tuition is free. There are several options including Agora and Commonwealth Connections. You might be able to enroll for your upcoming semester after your winter break.

We know many families that use this and it's a great way to educate yourself at home. You work your own schedule which in your case means plenty of time to grow your business.

We also recommend that you read a lot of business books like Rich Dad Poor Dad, by R. Kiyosaki. Even though you're legally an adult it would be best to get the support of your parents if you're still living at home.

Hello Elicentrep,

I tried to run a business when I was in college. Unlike yours, it never made a profit -- and went South when my partner took off with the paltry remains of the bank account.

My biggest regret is not that my partner ran off. Rather it is that I missed out on much of campus life -- and what a life to have missed. 1965-69: Selma March, Demonstrations against the war in Viet Nam, Womens Rights, SNC, Malcolm X -- you couldn't be a student in that environment without questioning and/or reaffirming everything in which you believed. What a rush.

Granted, nothing like that is likely to happen again, at least on American campuses.

My point is NOT suggesting you give up your successful business. I am suggesting that you may want to consider that your college years will be something you'll always remember and that the success requirements are quite different than high school. For example: when I went to college, the rule was 2 hours of study for each classroom hour.

I'm just concerned that you may stretch yourself so thin that your business, your studies and you social life suffer if you let your business consume too many of your waking hours.

Hi Elice,

First congratulations on running a successful business at such a young age.  I think you should very much try to do both school and work.  It will be slightly more difficult to juggle both but there are people who do it all the time and it is not that hard if you really want both.  Since you work for yourself it is even easier to schedule your time.  Have yo u considered taking on an employee and training them to handle responsibilities while you are working on school / degree.  Could yo go to school at a bit slower pace.  You have lots of options but give both endeavors a strong push and see where the roads take you. You are in a great life position might as well seize all the opportunities that present themselves.

Congrats to you on starting a business at such a young age. It is so great to see young entrepreneurs find success.  I wish I had seen the entrepreneur light at a young age and avoided the corporate drudgery Wink  Then again, it gave me a lot of valuable knowledge and business experience that I use in my business.  So go out there and have a lot of experiences - they can only add more to your business and give you a broader perspective.

If you have no time to do your business, you can employ someone to help you ,but you'd better to study at school.Learning knowledge from school is useful for your life time .
